Volunteer Opportunities


  • Volunteer with Toys 4 Tots. The organizers will accept student volunteers beginning November 12th anytime between 3:00 pm.  and 6:00 p.m.  Students may volunteer for up to 3 hours each day they choose to go.  For example, if a student arrives at 3:00 and leaves at 4:00, that's fine.  If a student arrives at 4:00 and leaves at 5:30, that's fine.  If they bring their volunteer sheets, the representative in charge, 1SGT Ashley Everette or her designee, will sign off on it.  
    The location is downtown at 1102 S. Saunders Street beside the Harley Davidson Center.  The address is also listed on the form.  There is a Toys 4 Tots banner in the window.  Horizontal parking is available in front of the facility.
     

    Aging Care Matters

    Looking for volunteers to pick up lunch orders and delivery to residents in senior citizen facility located in the Heritage community in Wake Forest.

    The Zoomers Program

    It is an intergenerational unit that connects high schoolers with the aging community through technology. On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-5, students will meet with seniors who have technology questions or need tech assistance for 30-minute appointments set in advance at the Northern Wake Senior Center. Experience with Apple, Android, MacOS and Windows is preferred.

    Durham Rescue Mission Thrift Store in Wake Forest

    Located at: 2109 South Main Street in Wake Forest (across from Walmart and Aldi's) Volunteering is easy. Students can set their own hours for as little or as many as they wish. The store hours are Mon. - Sat. from 9am-7pm. Students 16 years old and older can volunteer without an adult. Students 15 years old and younger must have an adult accompanying them while they volunteer. The work mainly consists of straightening racks, hanging up clothes, organizing store items or sweeping the floor.

    Volunteer to assist with: activities with patients, household activities, administrative or emotional support.

    A Horse Connection, Equine Assisted Therapy
    We are an equine-assisted therapy at a farm in Zebulon. We are looking for volunteers to help us with therapy appointments and potentially group events.  Here is what we are looking for:
    • Available for 3 – 6 hours at a time after school and weekends
    • Able to get transportation to and from the farm
    • Can work outside in various weather conditions (Appointments are canceled in the event of severe weather)
    • Comfortable in a farm setting and willing to get a little dirty
    • Experience with horses is a plus, but not required. 
    • Able to engage with children
    • Professional communication skills
    • Minimum commitment of 30 – 40 hours
    • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required
    • We will provide the necessary training

    This is a great opportunity to explore the potential of careers in physical and occupational therapy, education, and equine care and management, among others. We are continuously looking for volunteers who would like the horse farm environment, and who have transportation to the farm in Zebulon. We especially need help with horse care, sidewalkers, photo and video support, and social media help. Sidewalkers are the most immediate need.

    Shepherd Youth Ranch
    A Christian-based nonprofit providing hope and healing through connections with horses. Learn more about their purpose HERE. Students who are interested in animal science, or have a love of horses, or help kids.     ​Miracle League of the Triangle
    A fun volunteer experience helping individuals with special needs play baseball! 

    Individual or group volunteers are needed.

    When you sign up to volunteer as a group, you commit to a three-hour “Buddy” shift. Buddies work one-on-one with a player, under the direction of coaches and staff, providing guidance, safety, and friendship to the players. This shift will include field training, a free t-shirt, and assisting players during two Miracle League games. No Baseball Experience is Required! We will train you to be great buddies!

    Hospital Volunteer Information
    Many students want to volunteer in Raleigh area hospitals, so signing up to volunteer is very competitive. To have a chance at a slot, please plan ahead, and turn in your application on the first day applications are due.

    WakeMed Hospitals

    • Must be at least 16 years old. Students must start at the main Wake Med Hospital in east Raleigh.
    • When to apply - Summer Track - first Monday in April; Fall Track - first Monday in August; Spring Track - first Monday in January.

    Volunteer with the Red Cross

    Volunteer at Habitat for Humanity
    Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit agency that has helped to build over one million affordable homes worldwide. In our area there are multiple volunteer possibilities for young people.

    • Youth 14-18, can participate in multiple different activities

    Become a Teen Ambassador for Small Hands Big Hearts
    Small Hands Big Hearts is a non-profit organization that helps children get involved in volunteering. They do this through community partnerships and mentoring children to successfully pursue charitable ideas.
