Monthly Updates- February 2026

  • Community Shopping Project:

We are excited to share that first grade will soon begin a hands-on project all about the economy! Over the next few weeks, our classrooms will transform into stores as students learn about goods and services, producers and consumers, supply and demand, and make choices as shoppers.

    • Phase One: Making Connections
Students will build background knowledge and write about their own experiences as consumers.
How you can help: Please send a photo of your child shopping at a local business (grocery store, bookstore, market, etc.) in their purple folder by February 2. These will be displayed in the classroom.

    • Phase Two: Becoming Producers & Consumers
Students will hear from guest speakers, survey classmates, create products, design advertisements, and participate in two shopping days as both producers and consumers.
Guest speakers: If you have experience with running a business, producing goods, or marketing, we would love for you to volunteer. Please sign up using this form

    • Phase Three: Reflecting & Sharing
Students will reflect on their learning and present their work to other classes and school administration.

This project helps students connect classroom learning to the real world, and family involvement makes it even more meaningful. Thank you for your continued support! Please contact your child’s teacher if you’re able to send photos or volunteer.

    Class Valentines Celebration

This year for Valentine’s Day, we would like to celebrate kindness and the awesome friends we have made in our class.  At the end of the day on Friday, 2/13/26, we are going to have a card exchange.  Students would be able to give each of their friends a card to take home.  If you would like your child to participate in this celebration, we ask that you send in cards (either homemade or store-bought) for every child in the class.  Please keep in mind that some students have tree nut, peanut and almond allergies if the cards you bought come with candy.  This is not a party, so please do not send in additional treats such as juice boxes, cupcakes, and/or cookies.  If you do not want your child to participate, please email me, and an alternative arrangement can be made.

    Love Around the World:

We will invite families down to the classrooms from 11:30 to 12:00 (after the Sweetheart Lunch) to learn and engage in Valentine’s celebrations from around the world! Families will read about Valentine’s traditions from different cultures, answer questions, and complete a small craft.

    Field Trip Reminder:

Field trips are a fun way for students to experience their learning through real-life experiences. We appreciate your help and support to ensure our students have these opportunities by paying the fees online this year. Our next field trip is in March, and we need your help to ensure all payments are received by February 27th.
