Garner Magnet High School is an International Baccalaureate World School. As a Magnet school, rising 9th grade students living anywhere in southern Wake County are able to apply for Garner's magnet program. All magnet and base students have the opportunity to participate in any of the IB Programmes. Garner offers students the opportunity to take the following courses on a yearlong schedule, attending eight classes with four classes per day on an alternating A & B day schedule:
- 50+ Honors courses;
- 32 International Baccalaureate (IB) courses;
- 12 Advanced Placement (AP) courses;
- Visual & Performing Arts;
- World Languages in Spanish, French, and Mandarin Chinese;
- Physical Education;
- Career & Technical Education in 19 different career pathways;
- Special Education; and
- Numerous magnet elective course offerings.
In addition to coursework, Garner offers the following academic programming opportunities for students:
- Public Safety Career Academy;
- Army JROTC; and
- International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (all 9-10th grade students)
- International Baccalaureate (IB) Career-related Programme (optional programme for 11-12th grade)
- International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (optional programme for 11-12th grade)
