In this unit, students will observe in what ways an offspring resembles its parents.

• Students learn how baby animals and young plants resemble their parents.

• Students identify shared features such as size, shape, color, and body characteristics.

• Students compare and describe similarities and differences between parents and offspring.

• Students use texts and informational books (e.g., Who Do We Look Like?, The Mixed Up Nest, “Baby Animals”) to support learning.

• Students explore how mother animals identify their babies using features

• Students extend learning to plants and understand that young plants share traits with parent plants.

• Students engage in writing activities about animal and plant features.

Hands on Learning:

• Creating and comparing parent and baby models (e.g., Banana Penguins, cactus)

• Conducting simple matching experiments with young plants and parent plants
