Special Ed PreK Monthly Update
Last month, in February, we read Sweat Hearts, Duck for President, and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish and Cat in the Hat. Students used paper towels to make rings on paper to make the Olympic rings. Students used paint sticks to make pink, purple and red and added stickers to their papers. Students also finger painted with red, orange and yellow to make the Olympic torch with textured crinkle paper on the arm. Students will work
Reminders: 3/27/26 we will be doing home visits to students scheduled individually.

Science Learning Focus: Light and Sound
This month, students are exploring light and sound and learning how both are forms of energy we use every day.
What We Are Learning About Light:
- We need light in order to see
- Light travels in rays and reflects off objects into our eyes
- Identifying natural and artificial sources of light
- How we use light in daily life
- Observing how light creates shadows
What We Are Learning About Sound:
- Sound is created by vibrations
- Sound travels in waves through the air
- Different objects make different sounds
- Identifying sounds we hear all around us
Hands-On Learning Includes:
- Conducting experiments to test whether light is needed to see objects
- Creating shadow letters to explore how light travels
- Exploring sound vibrations through movement and different materials
- Making a musical instrument (Rainbow Tambourine)
- Investigating communication using light and sound, including Morse Code
Key Vocabulary:
- Light, sound, energy, ray, wave, vibrate, source, dark, see, hear, eyes, ears
- Through experiments, stories, and interactive activities, students are strengthening their understanding of how light and sound work and how they support communication and everyday life.
Math Learning Focus – March
In March, students are expanding their understanding of fractions, measurement, and time through hands-on learning and real-world applications.
What We Are Learning:
-
Identifying and modeling fractions beyond 1/2, including 1/3, 1/4, and 1/10
-
Understanding fractions as equal parts of a whole using visual and concrete models
-
Telling time to the hour using a digital clock
-
Measuring length and weight using standard units
-
Exploring how smaller units make up larger units (inches and feet; centimeters and meters; minutes and hours)
Vocabulary Students Are Using:
- Fraction, equal parts, whole, thirds, fourths, tenths, hour, minute, digital clock, measurement, length, inches, foot, centimeter, meter, weight
- Students are engaging in hands-on measurement activities, fraction modeling, and real-life math tasks to strengthen understanding and apply math skills in meaningful ways.
Letter Sounds & Digraph Introduced:
a, d, n, g, h, f
Digraph: whStudents are continuing to strengthen their phonics skills by identifying and producing these sounds, blending sounds to read simple words, and applying their letter–sound knowledge during structured and hands-on literacy activities.
