East Carolina University
Mrs. Melissa Chappell
I hold an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education and a Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a major in Education and a minor in Behavioral Sciences. Currently, I am pursuing my NC Teaching License in Birth-Kindergarten from East Carolina University, with an expected completion in the fall of 2024. Go Pirates! My future educational goals include obtaining a Master's degree in Special Education from ECU.
I bring a wealth of practical experience to my role, with a strong foundation in early childhood education and public school teaching. My journey began with 5 years in a childcare setting, where I honed my skills in nurturing and educating young minds. Transitioning to Wake County Public Schools, I dedicated 4 years to fostering a supportive learning environment and empowering students to reach their full potential. These experiences have equipped me with a deep understanding of the educational commitment to student success.
My philosophy of education centers around the belief that all children possess the innate ability to learn and thrive given the right environment and support. I am committed to creating inclusive and supportive classrooms where each student feels valued and empowered to reach their highest potential. By fostering a nurturing and engaging learning environment, I strive to inspire a love for learning in every child and to equip them with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. I believe in celebrating each child's unique strengths and fostering a growth mindset that encourages resilience, curiosity, and lifelong learning.
In my free time, I find joy in a variety of hobbies that enrich my life. Spending time with my daughter, Ellie, is my greatest joy, as her curiosity and laughter brighten each day. I also cherish moments with my family and friends, whether it's exploring the outdoors, relaxing at the beach, or engaging in crafting projects that allow me to express my creativity. These hobbies not only provide me with relaxation and fulfillment but also strengthen the bonds with those I care about most.

Bachelor of Sciences in Child Development with a minor in Psychology from Meredith College
Ms. Alana Liles
Hi Cougars! My name is Alana Liles and I teach the blended preschool class!
My education began at Zebulon Elementary School where I attended from kindergarten-5th grade. I then attended Zebulon Middle and East Wake High School where I graduated in 2001. I attended Meredith College in Raleigh and graduated in May of 2005 with a Bachelor of Sciences in Child Development, a minor in psychology, and obtained my Birth-Kindergarten teaching license. I am very excited to be returning to Zebulon Magnet Elementary where my education began when I was 5 years old!
I had an internship at Learning Together Inc. during my studies at Meredith College. Upon graduation, they offered me my first teaching job in an inclusive classroom. Next, I took a position at White Plains Children's Center in one of their inclusive classrooms. Wanting to work closer to home, I returned to Learning Together Inc. in one of their off-site classrooms located at the Knightdale Head Start. I have been with WCPSS at Carver Elementary since 2014. My new role will be teaching preschool in the blended Pre-K classroom at Zebulon Elementary School. I have been teaching young students, with and without special needs, for the last 20 years. I provide support to their families and work together with related service providers daily.
My goal is to create a safe and positive learning environment where students of all abilities can be successful. I encourage students to take on a leadership role within the classroom and to begin to learn responsibility and ownership of their classroom space. I believe that children learn in a variety of ways
My family is very important to me. I enjoy spending time with them, and we can often be found participating in special activities around Zebulon and Wendell. I am a single parent to one daughter. She is 11 and will be attending Zebulon Middle School for the upcoming school year as a 6th grader. I enjoy reading, being around any body of water and relaxing, and watching good movies.
