Jennifer Eckert, Art
I’m excited to be joining the York Elementary School family as the new art teacher! I hold an AAS in Advertising Art and Design from Farmingdale State College (State University of NY - SUNY), a BFA in Communication Design from the University at Buffalo (SUNY), and a Master’s in Elementary Education from Dowling College.
Before becoming a teacher, I worked as an art director and graphic artist—a career that strengthened my design skills and deepened my appreciation for the creative process, which I now bring into my teaching.
With a strong foundation in elementary education, I’m excited to bring my classroom expertise into the art room—where creativity, exploration, and self-expression thrive. My background in visual arts and design has shaped my belief that creative thinking is essential across all areas of learning. I’m passionate about helping students build artistic skills while developing confidence, critical thinking, and their unique voices as young artists.
Outside of school, my husband and I are proud parents of two young adult children. Over the summer, I focused on slowing down, catching up with friends, and making time for the things that bring me joy. I’m truly looking forward to a great year at YES and can’t wait to get to know all of my students!

Vicky Mahoney, Media Coordinator
Hello! My name is Vicky, and I am thrilled to be the Media Coordinator at York! I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and graduated from Illinois State University. Afterward, I was eager to see the world, so I spent three years teaching English in Japan and then four years teaching in a primary school in England!
In 2006, my husband and I moved to North Carolina. Since then, I've worked in education in various roles: third grade teacher, media coordinator, and sixth grade ELA teacher. I have two daughters—Emily, who will be a freshman at NC State, and Alyssa, a junior at Cary High School. We also have two cats, Buddy and Snowy.
On weekends, I enjoy hiking, cooking, reading and watching soccer with my husband. I am looking forward to working with the students in the media center this year and helping them explore, learn, and grow through books and technology!

Justin Scott, PE
I grew up in Raleigh and am proud to call Raleigh my home. I earned my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from East Carolina University and began teaching in Wake County in 2007. After 5 years of teaching in the classroom, I joined the York bulldog family as a staff member and the PE Coach in 2012. In my free time, I enjoy watching Liverpool Football Club and the Boston Red Sox, running, being a dad, and traveling with my wife.
