The Academy of Biomedical Science's mission is to provide students with sound academic foundations and technical skills that will enable them to continue their educations beyond high school and obtain employment in healthcare fields. Through the efforts of team planning, SMRHS uses the national Project Lead the Way (PLTW) curriculum that integrates the technical skills and terminology of health-related occupations. The total curriculum is designed to nurture student interest in health-related careers and better to advise them of career options in the medical field.

What can students expect in the academy?

Students can expect to be cohorted in their core classes with other MBSA students. Students will also get a chance to interact with guest speakers, and attend field trips related to medical careers, career counseling, summer internship, career exploration, hands-on activities, integrated curriculum.

What is a Career Academy?

Career Academies are personalized small learning communities within a school comprised of a small group of students and teachers for four years. Students can complete academy requirements within the regular school day, except for work internships, community service and some projects. Career Academies are open for rising Freshmen. Applications are accepted in the spring of their 8th grade year.
