Mr. Travis Shillings
I am so excited to be the principal of North Ridge Elementary!
I am originally from Greencastle, Indiana and I am a big Indiana Hoosier Fan! Prior to moving to Wake County, I attended Ball State University and earned my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Social Studies.
I began my educational career at Underwood GT Elementary as a first and second grade teacher. As I was teaching at Underwood I completed my graduate degree in school administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As part of my studies, I completed a year-long internship at AB Combs Leadership Magnet Elementary. For eight years, I served as an assistant principal in three elementary schools. I started at Olive Chapel Elementary for five years, one year I was split between Olive Chapel and Durant Road, and three years at Brassfield Elementary. Throughout those years I have been a part of many wonderful activities and supported many initiatives, including high growth for all students, technology integration through devices and tools, student running clubs, strategic district planning, and was recognized as a finalist for Assistant Principal of the year three times in a row. In 2015, I was announced as the principal of Underwood GT Elementary. I enjoyed my experiences as the principal for seven years. We were able to provide students with the opportunity to build and grow their gifts and talents. In July of 2022 I was approved to be the principal of North Ridge Elementary!
When I am not at school, I enjoy physical activities such as running, cycling, playing a variety of sports and being outside. My wife Courtney and I have been married since 2005 and we have two wonderful children, Braxton (born in 2010) and Brynn (born in 2012).

I am excited to serve as the Assistant Principal of North Ridge!
I have been working in Wake County since 2005. I have served as an Instructional Facilitator, Intervention Coordinator, and taught middle-level Science and Science electives for thirteen years. These roles have played an important part in the leader I am today. I believe relationships come first and all students can succeed.
I have a daughter that's in high school. I enjoy spending time with my family and look forward to our annual Christmas beach trip. In my spare time, I enjoy going to the movies, reading, traveling, and watching sports. I am a proud Clemson University alumni and love all things, Clemson.
I am thankful to be a part of the Unicorn family. I look forward to serving and working with each and every one of you.
