Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Craig Cerveny
I am married to my beautiful wife, Angela, and have 2 children, a boy and a girl. Noah (goes by Jacob) is in 4th grade and Noël who is in 7th grade. I enjoy talking to colleagues about my family and sharing ideas ranging from cooking tips to DIY projects.
I graduated from East Carolina University, with a bachelor’s degree in Special Education and a minor in psychology. I spent 2 years after graduation working for a Mental Health Company as a Community Based Specialist Professional. During this time, I provided interventions in the school, home and community to children by implementing a specially designed treatment plan (much like an IEP). I developed strategies for coping with various social problems and anger management for my clients. These skills helped me transition in to my role as a Special Education Teacher.
I have been teaching special Ed and teaching students with special needs since 2006. I have taught K-5 CCR and was a CCK teacher for 10 years. I have guided and worked with 5 interns in my teaching career. From a variety of nearby universities. I still communicate with my interns to bounce ideas off of and problem solve teaching challenges. I love teaching and finding unique ways for children to learn, using art, dance and music.
Why I chose to teach at MECME...
I chose to teach at MECME because students are little people who grow up to be adults. I want more adults to be aware of our environment and how our actions can impact us positively or negatively. I want to be a a part of growing our youth become oak trees in our forest of MECME.
What excites me about teaching?
Everyone learns differently and I am excited to see different perspectives of teaching and learning styles. I am excited to see how everyone's brains work.
