Hello! My name is Stephanie Sowma. I have been teaching since 2011 and joined Wake County Public Schools in 2022. I previously taught in Durham, NC, Minneapolis, MN, and Milwaukee, WI. I am originally from Kenosha, WI, where I attended University of Wisconsin - Parkside for my Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology. I later attended Hamline University in St. Paul, MN where I received a Master of Arts in Teaching.

My core beliefs as an educator are rigor and relevance. I am committed to providing an equitable, safe, and loving learning community for all students.

I live in Raleigh, NC with my partner Adrian and our two cats, Hans and Otto. I have ten nieces and nephews! When I am not at school, I enjoy cooking, reading, hiking, and traveling.

Why I teach...

My teachers never gave up on me, even when I was not a present or easy student. I want to provide that safe space for other kids.
