Hello! My name is Shannon Jarrett and I am excited to serve as a School Counselor to the VSES community! I am originally from NH where I got my Bachelor’s in Psychology from Keene State College and then later moved to Nashville, TN to get my Masters in Human Developmental Counseling focusing on School Counseling from Vanderbilt. I have been a School Counselor since 2018 in Nashville, TN and moved to Raleigh in 2023.

I have worked with students from varying backgrounds and have truly seen that all students can be successful when they have a caring adult in their lives. I am so lucky to have the opportunity to be one of many caring adults for the VSES students. I believe that students are the experts of themselves and I welcome them to use their voice.

Part of my role as a School Counselor is to serve students in a multitude of ways including whole class lessons, small groups, and in individual settings with each setting providing different opportunities for social and emotional growth. I align my work with the American School Counselor Association model to support students.

I moved to Raleigh with my husband and our energetic dog, Heath. In my free time, I love to try new recipes, check out new-to-me restaurants, or just talk about food in general. You will often find me humming along to a song or making up my own.
