Hello, Ram families! This is Mrs. Lassiter calling with the weekly announcements from Rolesville High School.
Report cards were sent home today. Be sure to ask your Ram for his or her copy.
We hope you will visit Reindeer Days on Saturday. Final set up will be Saturday morning and doors will open at 9 AM. Sales will end at 5 PM.
Counselors will begin sophomore small group conferences beginning November 7th and continue until Nov. 14th. Students will be reminded about requirements for graduation and they will discuss progress toward graduation. We also hope to provide information about National Honor Society in these meetings to help students understand requirements well in advance.
Additionally, counselors started their Signs of Suicide screenings this week and will continue next week. This screening simply assesses risk and allows school staff to communicate with families if there are concerns. Screenings are done county-wide in high school for 9th and 12th graders.
I wanted to mention something regarding semester exams that came to my attention this week. Before we learned that the state would be instituting NC Final Exams for many classes, we gave the outlines for senior exemptions in the student handbook. It was after the book was published that we got information stating that many courses would have NCFEs and no students can be exempt from them. Like EOCs, NCFEs will count for 20% of the final grade. The school has no discretion in the decision to give or not to give NCFEs to seniors. I wanted to be sure that the straight story made it home. Obviously, the number of courses that seniors can exempt exams will be significantly reduced. Teachers whose classes will require a NC Final Exam have been asked to inform the students. I just wanted to give a long lead time to make sure there are no surprises.
PTSA has a meeting Monday evening as does Athletic Boosters.
Don’t forget that we do not have school on Friday, Nov. 11th in observance of Veterans Day.
We have set a picture makeup day for 9th, 10th and 11th graders for November 17th.
I met today with Mrs. St. Clair, the person from Jordan Driving School who teaches and organizes classes. She made a point that I want to be sure you understand. First, it is really important that you write legibly. If she cannot read an email address, you may not get information. Secondly, she often tries to contact families to set up classes and does not get responses. It is very important to check the email that you provide in order to set your student up. You may either confirm with an email back or you can pay online for the course as a means of confirmation.
Hope to see you at Reindeer Days! Have a great weekend!
