Returning Hot Spots: All hot spots need to be returned before students graduate or go home for the summer. WCPSS is cancelling service to the hot spots, but they need the devices to be returned. The devices are scanned out to students, so the hot spots plus chargers can be dropped in any of the book return boxes on each floor of the commons, the office or outside the media center. Some students have also begun to return items in the media center, which is acceptable.

Graduation Guide for Seniors and Junior Marshals
The following information is very important to help senior and junior marshal families prepare for the traditional ceremonies and the diploma distributions. Access the graduation guide here. I will also take the information from this guide to create slides and a voiced-over presentation to be of more help. Keep in mind that due to changes in COVID restrictions, some things like mask requirements are evolving. There could be information that evolves from this guide to the slides and then even thereafter. Stay tuned.
Caps - This is important information: While students were allowed to decorate caps last year for the walk-through event, they will not be allowed to do so this year. We asked permission and were reminded that this has not been permitted in other traditional ceremonies. I am concerned that some students may have already decorated their caps. If this is the case, the student will need to buy an undecorated cap to wear in the ceremony. Additional caps can be purchased for $8. You will either need to pay through a card and call Jostens or bring exact cash to purchase after the parade or after rehearsal on the 3rd.
Paying Fees and Fines:
- Senior fees are $40 each. The preferred payment method is Online School Payments on our school website. Students to pay in CASH or MONEY ORDER after school each day until 3PM.
- Senior fines in the Follett app might be a bit confusing. Parents and students need to check online to see what might also need to be paid. If a student has a textbook, computer or hotspot assigned to him or her, they will simply need to be returned in order to clear the account. Books may also need to be returned.
Senior Exit Survey
This is something we need all seniors to do. It is something we do every year to collect important information. PLEASE, PLEASE make sure you have your senior Ram complete the survey!
Graduation Photos: We will give flyers to students at rehearsal to prepare parents to order graduation pictures from Strawbridge. I am also sharing the information here to let you have it in multiple places.
- Go to strawbridge.net
- Click "Order Pictures and Yearbooks"
- Type in the code FM360124 (The event type is "Grad" and the date is "6/11/2021")
Planning for Graduation: As you know, there will be no graduation ceremonies at the Raleigh Convention Center this year. Schools will host their own ceremonies on site. We will host both larger ceremonies similar to the RCC ceremony and intimate celebrations for families who prefer not to be in large crowds. We will soon send information to help you plan. We will also ask you to commit to one format or the other to help us plan accordingly. In the meantime, there are a couple of things senior families need to do now to prepare.
- If you have not ordered a cap and gown, you must do so through Jostens.com. You must have a cap and gown to participate in the ceremony.
- As you can imagine, expenses to hold events at school will increase in order to plan for and deliver nice events. Senior fees must be paid through Online School Payments on our school website. Thank you to those who have already taken care of this. For those who need to do so, please go ahead and submit the fees to allow us to prepare.
Applying for Scholarships: Check out the scholarship update at the RHS Student Services website weekly! You can't earn $$ if you don't apply!

REPEAT
Action Needed: NC Broadband Survey for Students and Teachers
The State Broadband Infrastructure Office (BIO), part of the N.C. Department of Information Technology, needs students and teachers to complete the North Carolina Broadband Survey. The survey will let the state know about the availability and quality of internet service, and will use the results to direct funding for broadband solutions across the state. The survey only takes 5 minutes to complete and is available in English and Spanish. Those without internet access can do it by phone. They can either text “internet” to 919-750-0553 or place a phone call and answer a series of short questions. Standard text messaging rates will apply.
FYI: Federal Help for Internet Access
Broadband services are being made available to families with limited or no broadband resources through the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program. The Emergency Broadband Benefit Program gives low-income households a discount on internet services. The program, administered by the Federal Communications Commission, opens for enrollment on May 12, 2021.
Students May Keep Chromebooks But Must Return Hotspots by End of School Year:
Any student who has a WCPSS-issued hotspot must return it to their school by the end of the school year. Hotspots will be disabled after the last day of school. Students who have a WCPSS-issued Chromebook will keep their Chromebook through the transition to the 2021-22 school year. Students are not required to return their Chromebooks to their school at the end of this school year, even if they are transferring or advancing to another WCPSS school. Students who are graduating or leaving WCPSS are required to return all devices to their school on or before their last day.
