Hello, Ram families!
Happy Sunday to you!
NC Countdown to College -- October 19th-30th THIS IS IT!
THIS YEAR COLLEGE APPLICATION WEEK HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO 2 WEEKS which means 2 weeks of free applications for those institutions that are waiving fees! Over 40 North Carolina schools will waive their application fees on CFNC.org during these two weeks!
Deadline for Student Late Work - WEDNESDAY, Oct. 21st
We know that it has been a challenge for many students to complete work by normal due dates for many reasons. However, we must have a deadline for late submissions in order to include work in the first nine week report cards. We ask that you please, please talk to your Ram about work submissions to make sure everything is in by Wednesday, Oct. 21st.
Materials Distribution
Some teachers have sent additional materials to the office for pick-up. Since there is a teacher workday this week on Friday, Oct. 23rd, Let’s make that day a pick-up day for materials. Teachers will tell students if they have materials for pick-up. Our distribution time needs to be limited to 8AM-2PM.
Making our Schools Safe Learning Environments
WCPSS is sharing an aspect related to reopening each day to make families aware of measures being taken to address health and safety for students and staff. Please follow the updates. We are retweeting on our Twitter feed on the homepage of the school website. So far, WCPSS has addressed:
- Top 7 things you need to know about Face Coverings
- What you need to know about changes to Cleaning Protocols
- What happens when there is a case of COVID on campus?
- What you need to know about changes to meal services
- How to help prepare your child to return to campus (SEL)
CPR Requirements for Graduation
All students must meet CPR graduation requirements. Mrs. Nilles is contacting students who are on target to graduate in January. She is emailing them the link to sign up for a time to certify. Students MUST sign up for a time to complete this requirement. Students will meet with a teacher under the overhang at the office on Wednesday, Oct. 28th, which is a remote learning day for RHS. Times are limited to 9AM until 1 PM.
For Student Athletes and Parents
If your Ram is planning to continue as an athlete in college, it is important that students and parents know NCAA requirements. The NCAA Eligibility Center recently held a webinar to share very important information. If you were not able to attend, you may access the recording here. It is very important that families understand requirements in order not to miss opportunities.
Rolesville Athletic Club Merchandise Sales
The RAC will have Rams gear on sale at the Rolesville Chamber of Commerce Business Saturday on October 24th from 10am-4pm. They are not planning sales at RHS, so this is your next opportunity to check out the gear.
FYI: Wake County Community Food Hubs
Our partners at Wake County Cooperative Extension have set up community food hubs to continue our work in providing students and families with access to food.
Have you reserved your Boston Butt?
Remember that our Rams Athletic Club is pre-selling Boston Butts to be ready for pick-up on Nov. 24th from 1-5PM. Please reserve yours today.
Interested in the CCP Program?
An informational session video for Rolesville High students is here! Check out:https://sites.google.com/wcpss.net/rhsstudentservices/career-college-promise for the link to the recording & PowerPoint info. The recording details important program information for NEW and CONTINUING CCP students!
National Achievers Society Interest Meeting
There will be an interest meeting on Monday, October 12th at 3PM for students who are interested in becoming a member of NAS. Those who are interested need to email Ms. Key at tkey@wcpss.net for a code to enter the Google Meet. Please do not wait until the last minute to request the code as she needs time before the meeting to prepare.
From PTSA
PTSA forms have been updated to extend the no fuss through October 31st (instead of 9/30/20) & the membership form has the Amazon link updated to include Rolesville High School PTSA because there was another Rolesville in a different state.
Regarding Use of the Fields and Courts at RHS
Except for use of facilities for athletics workouts when appropriate, the fields and courts are not to be used. WCPSS posted this at the start of the pandemic and has not lifted these restrictions. I genuinely do not want anyone to get in trouble for trespassing, so I am sending a reminder today.
REPEAT
Remaining Asynchronous Days for RHS
As many of you are aware, WCPSS has determined that each school can designate one day per week as an asynchronous day. Oct. 28th has been set as the last RHS asynchronous day. Students will have assignments that must be submitted and will be used for attendance purposes. Staff will use this time for feedback to students, meetings such as IEP meetings, tutoring with individuals and groups of students, planning with their like-content colleagues and more.
Senior Makeup Pictures
We have Nov. 12th as the date for these. We will send more information as we are prepared to address senior pictures.
Immunizations for Seniors, including Virtual Academy
We are making one more attempt to get the shot records for our seniors. Per state law, whether a student is on site or in virtual school, shot records are required. We will have to exclude students (suspend) beginning October 12th if we do not have records. Is is extremely important to contact Jane Stever (jstever@wcpss.net) to share a copy of your senior’s shot record if you have been contacted regarding absence of a record.
Chromebook Updates
If your student has a WCPSS-provided Chromebook, it is very important that the computer be shut down every night. There are updates that are pushed out overnight and need to run when the computer is turned in the morning. PLEASE have this discussion with your Ram to help the computers run well.
What if my Ram’s WCPSS-issued Chromebook or Hotspot is not working properly?
WCPSS has a family help desk to support your needs. Please visit https://www.wcpss.net/domain/17256. You will complete a form online to which a WCPSS employee from the Help Desk will respond with a call to you.
Virtual Senior Parent Night
While we are still building the senior year as we go, the counselors have provided a link to a virtual presentation that we normally share in our auditorium. Senior parents, please take time to listen to the presentation to help you know what to anticipate for the senior year.. This presentation is online on the Student Services page. The presentation has been recorded in Spanish as well as English. The presentations will stay online to allow parents to view it. There is also an FAQ form for parents to submit questions after they view the presentation.

Financial Aid Advisor
Our new advisor, Linda Taylor, will begin working in her role on Sept. 14th. She will be available for our school on Wednesdays from 9AM - 2PM. She will be working onsite most of the time. The financial aid video has been posted to our website. I just want to be certain that parents are aware that they can make appointments to speak with her. I am not certain how she will want to be contacted just yet, but I want to put it on your radar. You are always welcome to call the school and ask for the Student Services Department to connect with her.

If you must come to school
I know I have said it, but please come prepared. You must wear a mask, follow social distancing guidelines and sanitize when you are here.
If we can handle things remotely
Anything we can handle remotely, let’s plan to do it remotely. We will hold virtual meetings with parents, Student Services, etc. We are happy to schedule them. We all just need to get our virtual work calendars in sync!
Have a great weekend and stay RAM STRONG!
Best,
Mrs. Lassiter
