RHS Weekly Announcements | Sept.19, 2020
Hello, Ram families!
I hope you have had a RAMtastic week!
Senior Parade
We have CHANGED the date to Sept. 25th for the event that will begin at 12:30 and remain set up for about an hour. We welcome parents to drive or ride with their seniors. The parade will start at the main entrance by the football stadium, loop around the main office parking lot, go back down Young St., turn right on Quarry and loop around the back-staff parking lot. We need to have some fun and get our school spirit on!
As part of the event, we will have a Senior Parade Best-Decorated Car Competition! To enter, take a picture of your decorated car before coming to RHS. Then, upload ONE picture of your decorated car (with you standing beside it if you'd like) to the Google Form below on Friday. A survey will be sent out the following week for RHS students to vote for the best decorated car. The winner and a few honorable mentions will be featured in the 2021 yearbook. Upload your picture here: https://forms.gle/YDgSVGmWcfou58Jr5
It is time to have some fun and get our school spirit on!
Senior Conferences
Our individual senior conferences are still in progress. All seniors should sign up to meet with their counselor. The last day of meetings will be Oct. 14. These meetings are very important for our seniors as information will be shared/discussed as it relates to this school year and post high school plans.
Interims for 10th-12th Grade Week of September 21st
We will not be sending paper copies. If you need a paper copy, please request one from the counselor for your child’s alphabet (last name). Teachers will be finalizing grades and will let families know when to check PowerSchool for interim grades. Grades will be finalized most likely by Sept 23. Unfortunately, there is a scheduled service for Powerschool over the weekend, which means teachers cannot update grades. We are asking teachers to notify parents when the grades are current next week.
September 28: Remember that Monday, September 28th is a Teacher Workday.
Upcoming Individual College Visits
Here is a list of our upcoming virtual college visits and students may sign up on the student services page. At this time we are holding these meetings for seniors and our juniors will be able to attend virtual college visits in the spring.

REPEAT
Chromebook Updates
If your student has a WCPSS-provided Chromebooks, it is very important that the computer be shut down every night. There are updates that are pushed out overnight and need to run when the computer is turned in the morning. PLEASE have this discussion with your Ram to help the computers run well.
Virtual Senior Parent Night
While we are still building the senior year as we go, the counselors have provided a link to a virtual presentation that we normally share in our auditorium. Senior parents, please take time to listen to the presentation to help you know what to anticipate for the senior year.. This presentation is online on the Student Services page. The presentation has been recorded in Spanish as well as English. The presentations will stay online to allow parents to view it. There is also an FAQ form for parents to submit questions after they view the presentation.
School Pictures
So, this is another thing that is a little complicated. We have permission to have photos taken onsite following social distancing rules. Strawbridge has worked with us to set up times for students to come to school according to how they sign up while we are still in remote learning. Photos will be taken on the first floor commons. At this time, we have the
Following dates set aside to offer this service to freshmen, sophomores and juniors: October 5th from 1-7PM, October 6th from 9-3PM, October 7th from 9-3 PM. We will send sign-up information in the near future.
Seniors will need a separate time to take photos if missed during the summer. The background is different for seniors. We are planning for senior makeups to be Nov. 12th.
There will be additional times once we return the building. We have some in reserve, but we are not certain if we will, indeed, be in school. At this time, I will not add those dates to prevent confusion, especially if our return is delayed further.

No student ID number required to receive meals. *Or until funding is depleted.
From PTSA - Membership and No-Fuss
Our PTSA Board has been patiently waiting as we have begun the year and tried to figure out how to navigate this COVID landscape as a PTSA. Clearly, navigating this part of the landscape is new like seemingly everything else with the school year!. PTSA is sending a membership form to invite parents and students to join. Please see the attached membership form.
Also, we are uncertain about the Reindeer Days event for this year. There is a strong possibility that we will not be able to host the event in person. We have to decide if a virtual event is even plausible at this point. That said, the PTSA still has events that they typically support or host and those things are costly. In order to assure that we have operating funds for the events that support our students, the PTSA is hosting a no-fuss fundraiser. They have sent a letter to explain and ask that each family support via the methods they have provided. We would sincerely appreciate fundraising in this manner to help us proceed with planning for the year.
What if my Ram’s WCPSS-issued Chromebook or Hotspot is not working properly?
WCPSS has a family help desk to support your needs. Please visit https://www.wcpss.net/domain/17256. You will complete a form online to which a WCPSS employee from the Help Desk will respond with a call to you.
SAT at RHS on Saturday, Oct. 3rd
Right now, we have open spaces for students to test at RHS on October 3rd. The regular registration deadline is September 4th. Late registration runs until September 22nd. Go to the College Board website to register.
PSAT at RHS for Interested Students
This optional assessment is given to sophomores who wish to take the assessment as practice and also to potentially qualify to be a National Merit Scholar. We typically give this in the fall of the year, but Wake is planning to give it in late January for this school year. I will share more information when we are closer to that time.
Financial Aid Advisor
Our new advisor, Linda Taylor, will begin working in her role on Sept. 14th. She will be available for our school on Wednesdays from 9AM - 2PM. She will be working onsite most of the time. The financial aid video has been posted to our website. I just want to be certain that parents are aware that they can make appointments to speak with her. I am not certain how she will want to be contacted just yet, but I want to put it on your radar. You are always welcome to call the school and ask for the Student Services Department to connect with her.
Interim Reporting
In the virtual environment, we will not send paper interims unless you request copies. I just wanted to give you a heads up on that,
Freshman Academy will have two interim reporting times per grading period while grade 10-12 will have one interim week. The goal for the first interim period for Freshman Academy is really to make a connection with parents in lieu of a specific interim. In lieu of a formal interim, they are asking parents to participate in the Open House on Sept. 8th. Grades 10-12 interim week is Sept. 21st. At that time, parents need to check grades if they have not already done so. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you have regarding grades at any time.

This is the College Fair that is usually hosted at the NCSU McKimmon Center. CACRAO is proud to present the Virtual presentations for students to explore college opportunities. While each academic year presents unique challenges, we know this year will present many challenges like never before. We hope that this year's virtual events will be an easy and accessible way for students to learn more about the unique college opportunities from CACRAO partners close to home, and around the world.
*Hear from Admission Officers: Experienced admission counselors will tell you what you need to know.
*Gain Important College Knowledge: Choose from 280 different presentations and information sessions.

RAC Golf Tournament
Our Annual Golf Tournament is coming up on Oct. 3rd. More details about the tournament and registration are available online.
Deadlines for Work to be Completed/Attendance
Whereas it is reasonable, I have told teachers that they can put a timeline (not just date but also actual time) that assignments are due. Teachers cannot be expected to respond or work well with students if they submit work at 11:59 PM on the day it is due.
Teachers will generally mark attendance during the period, so you can see if your Ram is participating synchronously during the period.
WCPSS and RHS Handbooks
For those who came through materials distribution, we gave you a hard copy of the WCPSS handbook. For those who did not come to school, we have linked the WCPSS handbook in addition to the RHS handbook to our website.
Senior Picture Proofs
I am sending a reminder that proofs will be sent to the email address that students used when they paid the session fee. I am not sure everyone understood where to look for proofs.
students will need to actually pick anything up. If they/you do, the plan is:
If you must come to school
I know I have said it, but please come prepared. You must wear a mask, follow social distancing guidelines and sanitize when you are here.
If we can handle things remotely
Anything we can handle remotely, let’s plan to do it remotely. We will hold virtual meetings with parents, Student Services, etc. We are happy to schedule them. We all just need to get our virtual work calendars in sync!
Immunizations for Seniors, including Virtual Academy
We still have over 200 seniors for which we do not have complete shot information. We will be in touch with you again, as necessary. While we are learning remotely, the expectation is that we either get the records to show that the booster has been given in the past or we need to know that it will be completed. The legal requirement has been temporarily suspended until Sept. 30th. I mentioned before that it takes time to set up appointments for boosters and actually get into the office. If you have not made that appointment, you need to do it now. I need records on or before Sept. 30th to tell me that you have satisfied this legal requirement. Understand that I do not know if there will be a further extension. Wherever that deadline finally lands, I will have to suspend students from school until the shots have been completed and verified with the school.
Have a great weekend and stay RAM STRONG!
Best,
Mrs. Lassiter
