    New

Friday, March 2nd - Early Release

ACT for Juniors:  We will be giving the ACT to all Juniors on Tuesday.  We will start right at the beginning of the day.  On Thursday and Friday of this week, we met with the students to prepare the students information on the bubble sheets and we talked about what to expect and strategies to assist them with the assessment.  As parents, if you want to look over information to help them, I suggest you go to the Khan Academy or Brightstorm videos on Youtube. Search for Khan Academy ACT videos or Brightstorm ACT videos to get background and support information.  There are others, but my own search made me think that these really cut to the chase well.

Rolesville Business Alliance will meet Tuesday at 8 AM at our school.

RHS and the Rolesville Business Alliance will host a Career Fair for students on Wednesday, March 21st, 8 a.m. - noon.

NACAC College Fair - in Raleigh on March 20th, 4:30-7:30 PM at the Raleigh Convention Center.  I was not even familiar with this event until recently.  I thought I would pass it along.  Lots of colleges will be there.  You can go online to learn more.  I googled NACAC College Fair Raleigh.

Follow-up regarding school security:  It occurred to me this week that we have never really explained to parents what they should do in a lockdown drill or actual lockdown scenario.  If you ever happen to be at school find that you need to be part of the process, please quietly follow the lead of the staff who are nearby.  They know where to go and what to do.  Additionally, teachers have been asked to review the drill information class-by-class and we will plan to review the drill in the upcoming week.  As always, I encourage you to talk with your teens and share anything with me that I might need to know to manage safety at the school.

From our Army recruiter, SSG Hernandez:  The Musical Ambassadors of the Army, The United States Army Field Band, will perform a FREE concert at 7:30 p.m. on February 28 at Seby B. Jones Performing Arts Center in Louisburg. For more information, call 866-773-6354 or visit armyfieldband.com.

    Review

CCP and Wake Tech:  Students who are interested in earning college credits at Wake Tech while still enrolled in high school may learn about the CCP program at ccp.waketech.edu.   Information sessions will be held on both Wake Tech's north and south campuses beginning late February through May 15. Students will need to register on the website to attend the mandatory information session.

Course Registration for 2018-19:  Counselors began meetings with students on Tuesday, February 20th.

ACT Prep and Administration:  Juniors will take the ACT on Tuesday, February 27th.  There are lots of online resources that students can access to help them learn tips and tricks to prepare to test well.  It is worth taking time at home to do a little research and talk about the tips together.

PTSA Nominations:  Our wonderful PTSA Board is already thinking about next year.  They very much want to know if there are folks who are interested in a position on the Board who are not presently represented.  Please contact the school or a present Board member to let us know you are interested.

Planning ahead for current juniors:  In the past few summers, seniors have taken portraits at a studio in Raleigh.  We have been in conversation this past week and are very likely going to host tux/drape, cap and gown, informals at RHS during the week of July 30-Aug. 3 as opposed to a studio off site.  I wanted to give you a heads up that we are trying to make the trip shorter and the effort easier to accomplish over the summer.  There will be more information to come later, but I thought it would be important to let you know given it is a shift in the way we have done business in the past.

Senior Fees:  June grads need to go to  Online School Payments on our website  to pay $40.  They are due by March 28th.

Registration for AP Exams:  The site for registration went live on December 11th.  Mr Douglas, our Dean of Students, has prepared information for the AP teachers to share with the students. If you wish to see the presentation, you will be able to access it on the RHS website.  Go to Academics -> Advanced Placement -> RHS AP Exam Information -> AP Exam Informational Powerpoint.
