RHS Weekly Announcements | April 9, 2021
Enviaré un correo electrónico por separado en español.
Hello, Ram families!
I hope you all had a wonderful spring break and are back in the school routine! It has been great to have more students back in the building.
For all you gardeners, the FFA plant sale is Saturday (April 10th) from 8am-1pm. Go to the greenhouse near the baseball and softball fields. Cash, check, Venmo, or cash app can be used. They also have a card reader. Come see what our students have done and support RHS FFA. These prices are the best around!
I would be remiss if I did not ask you to join me in celebrating our varsity football team in a 6-0 regular season and conference championship. At times during the pandemic when our lives have felt there was little to celebrate, the team has given us a wonderful opportunity to celebrate. #RamPride Thanks, team!
I will be maintaining a section in the weekly email regarding Seniors. As more information is decided, I will add to this section. There is a meeting with Central Services staff next week that should allow us to make next decisions and allow me to share the most vital information for your purposes. We will prepare our annual graduation guidance document to share with students and parents later this month. We plan to develop a senior section on the website to have a centralized place for all information.
I also have a separate section for Wake Tech to share information about CCP. This information is crucial as families need to attend meetings if your Ram is considering WTCC courses through the CCP program. Scan down to that section. As more information is added or changed, it will be included in this section.
NEW
Report Cards: Grades have been finalized. As I shared earlier this year, we will not print report cards for all students. If, however, you wish for us to mail a copy to you, please email Jane Stever at jstever@wcpss.net to request a copy of your Ram’s third nine weeks report card. Requests need to be made to Mrs. Stever by Friday, April 16th.
Virtual Academy for 2021-22: WCPSS is sending information to all families on 4-9-21 regarding VA for next year. Please be on the lookout for that email if this is something that interests you.
Youth Leadership Rolesville: Do you know a rising 10th-12th grader that wants to learn more about his/her leadership potential, local business leaders, and town opportunities? More information, program goals, student qualifications, program timeline and application can be found here: https://rolesvillechamber.org/youth-leadership-rolesville/ Applications are due: May 7th, 2021!
PreACT Planning: This test is being offered to all 10th grade students that would like a practice test for the ACT. It is a curriculum and standard based educational tool that assesses the students' progress toward academic readiness for college and it will give students an estimated ACT score. If your student does not take this test this year it will not count against them in any way. However, there will not be another opportunity to take this test at school. The ACT will be offered their 11th grade year on campus.
Who: All 10th grade students (includes in-person and Virtual Academy students)
When: April 28th (remote learning day)
Time: 7:30 am
Where: Rolesville High School
Transportation: students may ride the bus* or provide their own transportation
*VA students that do not know their assigned bus please contact Mr. Wheeler at nwheeler@wcpss.net
Accreditation for RHS: Last week, we received our report from Cognia, an accrediting agency for high schools and colleges that is used internationally. Accreditations require much preparation in advance of the review and then several panels of folks to provide insight into the function and effectiveness of the school. This information is extraordinarily valuable for school improvement planning. Well, we were up for a five-year review during the pandemic and chose not to defer a year, because we needed feedback to help with planning for improvement. I want to thank the parents, students, staff and community members who participated in the process. For all, it is a huge relief to finish the review and move forward with the data we have received. The report was very favorable and certainly aligns with the work we will have to do as we emerge from the impact of the pandemic. It was very positive to read that Cognia provides not only written feedback but also a comparison to the work being done in other schools. They use an index from five years of all the accreditations they have done by which our school can compare. The five year average for all schools reviewed is 278.34 – 283.33. Rolesville High School received an overall score of 348. This review is cause for great pride and celebration in our school community. Thank you to all who have contributed to the growth we have made in recent years!!!
Reminders from the Office: Now that more students are back in the building (YAY), we need to remind you that student checkouts at the end of the day need to be done by 1:50PM. It is a challenge to juggle everything that happens in the office at the end of the day, especially when we have to contact teachers and have students come to the office before things like announcements start. Please make sure you come before 1:50Pm for checkouts.
Also, student drivers who have notes to leave early for appointments must bring the note to Mrs. Alderman at the very beginning of the day before going to first period.
SENIORS
Planning for Graduation: As you know, there will be no graduation ceremonies at the Raleigh Convention Center this year. Schools will host their own ceremonies on site. We will host both larger ceremonies similar to the RCC ceremony and intimate celebrations for families who prefer not to be in large crowds. We will soon send information to help you plan. We will also ask you to commit to one format or the other to help us plan accordingly. In the meantime, there are a couple of things senior families need to do now to prepare.
1. If you have not ordered a cap and gown, you must do so through Jostens.com. You must have a cap and gown to participate in the ceremony. The next cap and gown distribution will be on April 22nd from 3-4PM.
2. As you can imagine, expenses to hold events at school will increase in order to plan for and deliver nice events. Senior fees must be paid through Online School Payments on our school website. Thank you to those who have already taken care of this. For those who need to do so, please go ahead and submit the fees to allow us to prepare.
Cap and Gown Pictures: These pictures will be taken by Strawbridge and will be optional. We will send up a Sign-Up Genius for April 30th from 9-11AM. Pictures will be taken in the Auxiliary Gym.
PTSA Scholarship: As mentioned earlier, PTSA is sponsoring two scholarships each in the amount of $250 to two RHS seniors who must be members of the PTSA. The application is online this year and can be found here. Applications will be accepted from April 1st until April 30th only.
Applying for Scholarships: Check out the scholarship update at the RHS Student Services website weekly! You can't earn $$ if you don't apply!
CTE Concentrator Survey for Seniors: Mrs. Long has requested that all seniors complete the following survey. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfT9e-JP5Y9rWVcrhxYi_WAECNNdOMtAixY1tUz_-0DIxD0ZQ/viewform?usp=sf_link
INFORMATION: WAKE TECH CCP PROGRAM
Wake Tech Community College Information Sessions: On April 20th and May 18th, Wake Tech will be offering Live Information Sessions for 11th and 12th graders who are interested in knowing more about Wake Technical Community College. The live session will explain the curriculum, college transfer & health science programs. They will also discuss the admissions process and other resources, tutoring, athletics & clubs/organizations on campus. A Google Meets code will be sent to you the day before the presentation (to your WCPSS email) so you can gain access to the live presentation. Register for one of the sessions HERE.
CCP Enrollment Process Update & Reminder
The CCP Enrollment Process is in full swing. Within a 2.5 week time span, we already have 500+ new CCP Applicants! That number does not include Continuing CCP Students, so we are expecting another record breaking enrollment cycle (for Summer and Fall Terms). To encourage students to submit documents early, students who are approved and have all enrollment requirements met/completed by April 12th, will have priority registration beginning April 15th when Self-Registration begins.
Reminder – 10th Grade Students: Current Sophomores who plan to enroll during the Summer Term must meet all 9th/10th Grade eligibility requirements for acceptance. If they plan to enroll for the Fall, they will be reviewed based on 11th/12th grade eligibility.
Virtual Appointments Reminder (Check My Status & Virtual Advising)
Students have the opportunity to speak with a CCP representative if they have completed a CCP Application Form or currently enrolled as a CCP student. For more information on Virtual Appointments, students can visit Admissions and Advising page on the CCP website.

The Amazon Smile online is listed as Rolesville High School PTSA. The Harris Teeter code is 2392 and the Target code is 15343. Remember that Lowes Foods cards can also be linked.
PTSA drew on 12/18 for the first custom wreath. Remember that a no-fuss donation gets you a chance to win a custom wreath. There will be a drawing in January and another in February. Your donations support scholarships, senior celebrations, teacher classroom grants and more.
