Congratulations to Mr. Heaney, Orchestra Teacher, as he was named WRAL Teacher of the Week and featured on Wednesday of this week!

LAST CALL - Perfect Attendance for Senior Awards:  If you believe your child has had perfect attendance in WCPSS K-12, please let us know asap.  We had a situation last year that the computer did not pull a student’s name properly and we want to avoid this. At this time, we have checked multiple times already and there are no names that meet these criteria.  We do not want to make a mistake by relying only on the computer, so we want deserving students to be recognized,  Please let us know so we can research.  You are welcome to email me directly atdlassiter@wcpss.net.

Specifics about AP Testing:  AP exams begin May 6th and run through May 17th.  Please keep in mind that a score of 3 or higher must be accepted by UNC campuses for credit toward college graduation.  Students in the past have felt the pressure to make a score higher than 3 to get credit.  Given this change in requirement, students have been reminded to give this test a really good shot and go into college with some credits already accepted.   It is very important to know what to expect.  Dean of Students, Tracy Miller, met with the students who are registered to test and reviewed a great deal of information to prepare them for the sessions. Understand that some of the assessments will be off-site and others still are at RHS.  It is common for schools to test off-site to provide a quiet setting to work.  Some of the exams will be given at ARISE at 300 Southtown Circle in Rolesville.  Mr. Miller provided a detailed list of dated assessments with the time and location of the assessment.  He also provided a permission form regarding arrival and dismissal in addition to a parent/student AP Bulletin.   Please make sure you review the information on our website.  Go to Academics->Advanced Placement -> AP Exams 2019.

Media Center Periodically closed:  While we are administering some AP tests off-site to limit interruption to school functions, there are times that we simply must test in the media center.  This coming week, the media center will be closed ALL day to support AP testing.

Rambassadors for Next School Year:  The link to the application is on the school homepage in the banner.  Students need to complete the form and submit by Friday, May 17th.  These students are representatives of our student body who assist with events on site and off site.  Questions need to be directed to Ms. Lucas or Ms. McQuaig in Student Services.

First Photo Contest (that I am aware of):  Our photography club is sponsoring a student photo contest with categories of action, nature, ODD portraits, general portraits, and still life.  There is a limit of 6 print entries per student due to Mr. Myers by May 10th.  I look forward to seeing through the lens of our Rams!

Sign-Up to Help with Senior Picnic:  We need help from freshman, sophomore and junior parents with the senior picnic.  The set-up needs to occur while the senior parents are in the awards ceremony on the 23rd. The Sign-Up Genius is at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0b44a5ae2fa3fc1-senior8

As the 2018-2019 senior year winds down we need your help to add to the celebrations for our seniors. Senior Day festivities will be on Thursday, May 23rd. We ask all parents of freshmen, sophomores, and juniors to help make this day special for seniors. We need time, food and equipment contributions. All donations must be received by Monday, May 20th. Please drop off donations in the front office. For equipment Lending: contact Ronda at rondafalk@outlook.com or 919-880-7613 to arrange to drop off.

Please plan to help make this a memorable event for our seniors!!!!

Parents of Seniors and Seniors:  We regularly remind seniors to check our Student Services website for information regarding scholarships.  I occurred to me this week that parents need to be aware that this site is updated pretty frequently and you, too, might want to take a gander to see if there is a good fit.  As I said, we announce the ones that groups ask us to announce, but there are more than we have time to announce.

Seniors Who Attended Harris Creek:  Once again, HCES is inviting the seniors who attended there to come back for a Senior Walk.  I saw the video last year and it was AWESOME!  The walk will be on June 12th at 2:45 PM.  Please R.S.V.P. to Sonya Averette, Counselor, at saverette@wcpss.net.  Light refreshments will follow.

Graduation Tickets: Families in need of extra tickets for Graduation can earn 1 extra ticket for each day they assist with exams June 5-11, with a maximum of 4 additional tickets.

Graduation Translation Services:  Families who need translation services, sign language services, handicap seating, or hardship assistance with Graduation regalia or dress code items should contact Ms. Nilles at knilles@wcpss.net or by calling the school.

Pizza at Lunch:  Beginning May 10th, RHS cafeteria will not offer Dominos Pizza.  There will be a variety of choices to finish the year.

Got aluminum can tabs?  RHS student, Sterling Elliott, will be participating in the 2019 NC Youth Legislative Assembly.  YLA participates in a community service project: PICK UP the TAB!  This is a fundraiser that collects thousands of dollars for the Ronald McDonald House programs simply by collecting tabs from aluminum beverage or food cans in any containers (ex. Spaghetti-O’s).  Sterling plans to set up a collection station in the cafeteria April 1-12 and April 22-June.1.  Please consider donating your tabs.

Cords for Senior Activities:  The list has been posted on the website.  https://www.wcpss.net/cms/lib/NC01911451/Centricity/Domain/10633/Grad%202019%20cords.pdf

Spring Semester Exams:  Remember that they begin on June 5th and run through June 11th.  We have not released the schedule as we are waiting on a reply from the state regarding a technology request we made.  The response will determine if we use the plan we have or if we have to make additional changes.  We do not want to put a plan in place and then have to change it.  We are trying to make sure that we have everything workable as graduation rehearsal at the Raleigh Convention Center is the afternoon of the 5th.  We are looking at the best way to manage that date with two major things happening.

Graduation Date and Time:  I just want to remind you that RHS graduates at Raleigh Convention Center on Friday, June 14th at 8 AM.

Very Important Regarding Registration for 2019-20

College Acceptance and Scholarship Letters:  Our Student Services Department wants students to bring a copy of acceptance letters and scholarship offers to their front desk.  The counselors maintain a record of acceptance and a running total of scholarship offers for each class.  It is a great opportunity to celebrate with our students as they make plans for the next steps in their lives.
