Rolesville High School Weekly Updates | September 9, 2017
Returning Bring Your Own Device forms: Parents MUST complete these forms in addition to the students and return them asap. Students who do not have them in place will not be allowed to use their devices in a BYOD format. THESE NEED TO BE ON FILE BY MONDAY.
PTSA Meeting: Please join the next PTSA meeting on Monday, Sept 11, 6 PM in the 1st floor Commons area. If you are not already a member, you may join at the meeting or on the PTSA website http://www.rolesvillehsptsa.com. In the event that something needs to be modified regarding the meeting due to Irma, we will post on the school website and on the PTSA Facebook. We encourage you to check for updates before you actually make your way to the meeting.
Rolesville BBQ and Bands Volunteers: Students are needed to volunteer for Rolesville's 8th Annual Bands & BBQ Festival on Saturday, September 16. Volunteers are needed on Friday, Sept. 15, to set up and prepare for the festival and all day on Saturday. To sign up for the various shifts, go to RolesvilleChamber.org and click on Bands & BBQ Festival. Volunteering looks great on college and job applications. It also allows for opportunities to network with business and community members. Students, please don't forget to wear your RHS colors or RHS gear!
RHS PTSA Reindeer Day 2017 - Saturday, November 4th 9am - 4pm This is our 4th annual Reindeer Day event! We hope you will plan to join us. This has turned into a fun community event! We have over 1,000 people come to shop the event and currently have 131 vendor spaces accounted for!
School Pictures for 9th-11th Graders: Teachers were provided packets last week to distribute to 9th-11th graders for underclassmen pictures. Students should have brought them home. These pictures are scheduled to be taken September 12th, which is a quick turnaround this year. Makeups are scheduled for October 16th.
Graduation Information – 2018 at the Raleigh Convention Center: Rehearsal for all seniors who will march (required): May 30th @ 6 PM, Graduation: June 8th @ 8 PM
Morning Carpool: Thanks to all who have sorted it out in the carpool lane and had patience with us as we cleared up the paths, etc. I know that the orange “Let’s Do This” buckets are a bit weird, but you can see them and it prevents cars from turning too far into the other lane. I just do not want anyone to have a wreck.
Senior Tuxedo/Drape Picture Day – September 28th: This day is for seniors who did not take care of it this summer in the studio. There will be a $15 sitting fee due at the time of sitting for the picture if students would like proofs for pictures. Otherwise, it is free to sit for the picture.
Volunteer Registration Renewal: Remember that we need all parents and grandparents to renew your volunteer registration asap. It is a much more timely process than it will be if you wait until after Oct. 31. At that point, approval will be quite slow. Please make time to come by school to register. Registration can also be done at other WCPSS facilities.
Student Volunteers – from Mrs. McPherson: She will be providing information online and over announcements for students to volunteer in the community. More information will come, but she wanted to plant the seed.
College Recruiters to Campus: They will begin to make visits starting in late September. Mrs. McPherson wanted to be sure you were aware that there are many opportunities during the year for students to speak with recruiters. I am certain they would be happy to answer your questions, too!
Youth Leadership Rolesville for students who live in 27571: This opportunity is being offered by the Rolesville Chamber of Commerce. The application has been posted online under the Student tab. There is a fairly quick turn-around. The applications are first screened and then students are called for interviews based on the application. Applicants must be in good academic standing and have no attendance or disciplinary issues. This is for students who are interested in improving the community and potentially contributing to the betterment of Rolesville. This model is used in cities and towns to connect high school students with local business and community leaders to not only help them learn about the town, its leaders and its history, but also gives them an opportunity to hone leadership skills. The application process is much like getting a job. You have to “shine” on the written application in order to get the interview. I will review the details with the students over the intercom. I encourage parents of sophomores through seniors to look at the application and encourage students to apply. This year, we are including seniors. In the future, the plan is to focus on sophomores and juniors. The implication for juniors is that there may not be a senior option. If they are interested, juniors need to apply this year.
ASVAB Administration: It will be Oct. 5th at RHS. This is a great assessment for students who will go into the military or not. The information that the assessment provides is outstanding when students are trying to make decisions about training and careers. We will provide more information during morning announcements.
Student Services shared these tips for the month: (Repeat)
