RHS Weekly Announcements | February 19, 2021
Hello, Ram families!
Tuesday is the day that Juniors come to campus to take the ACT. We must utilize teachers as administrators, so other students will have asynchronous lessons. Wednesday is a county asynchronous day, as well.
Also, remember that Cohort 3 comes to school on Monday, Thursday and Friday next week. Cohort 3 students need to remember to bring your school-issued computer and charger if you have them. All students need to bring earbuds. Additionally, students need to bring a cup or water bottle to get water from the water fountain. Students cannot drink directly from the fountain. Lastly, students are required to wear a mask when on school transportation and on school grounds

All supplies need to be in by February 26th at the end of the day. You do not need to be an FFA member to participate!

Final Grades for First Semester: Some grades are being updated as students complete makeup exams. Students who have not completed exams will continue to carry an INC. We are updating grades as quickly as possible when exam grades are provided from the state.
Yearbook Price Increase: The yearbook price is increasing today! Order yours at www.jostensyearbooks.com to reserve your copy for $75 before the price changes. The 2021 yearbook is like no other (in a good way), and we can't wait for you to see it.
If You Missed Curriculum/AP Night: There are two videos here that provide a good overview. There is also a list of AP classes we will potentially (depending on interest and staff availability) be offering next year and any required summer assignments here.
Yearbook Portrait Submission! If your student was unable to attend one of the Picture Days, please have them upload a picture for the yearbook's portrait section. Please see this flyer for guidelines and they can upload their picture at ybkplus.com. Portraits are due before March 31st. Contact Ms. Hatcher at rhatcher@wcpss.net if you have any questions.
Upcoming ASVAB Administration: The ASVAB test will be held on Friday, March 5th, 2021. The ASVAB test can be taken by 10th - 12th graders interested in the military & military careers, or students interested in identifying their skills and strengths for various professions. Please check your WPCSS e-mail the week of the ASVAB. A testing pass will be sent to you & you will need to show it when you arrive the morning of March 5th. We will be starting the test PROMPTLY at 7:30AM on March 5th. The testing location in the building is TBD. The final day to sign up to take the ASVAB will be on Monday, March 1st. Please register here to take the ASVAB: http://bit.ly/RHSASVAB2021
WAKE Up and Read! From January 23 through February 28, 2021, we are collecting books for WAKE Up and Read. Building home libraries is one of their biggest initiatives and they need our help! This year WAKE Up and Read has a goal to collect 200,000 new and gently-read books for babies up to children 12 years old. These books will be shared with children in Wake County to ensure that every child in our community has the opportunity to develop a love for reading.
YOU can make a difference in our community by donating books! Please clear your cluttered shelves of gently read books your kids have outgrown, or bring in current favorites of your own, so that we can help Wake county children grow up loving books.
Look for the book collection bins located outside the main office and please help us fill them! To help with safe collection, please put your books in a bag or box in our collection bins.
INCs in First Semester Grades: We know that some grades still need to be updated. There is an internal process that must be followed and is not as simple as just keying a change. Please give us a little time before emailing. The teachers and clerical staff are juggling several big start-of-semester tasks that also have slowed grade changes down. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Senior Information: Remember that we update information on the website that pertains to seniors. Go to STUDENTS and then CLASS OF 2021 to find updates. We are still waiting for more direction and will be in communication. For the moment, we just want you to note where we place updated information for your reference.
Applying for Scholarships: Mrs. Samek manages scholarship opportunities for RHS. She sent the following message for our weekly email.
Check out the scholarship update at the RHS Student Services website weekly! You can't earn $$ if you don't apply!
Important: Complete a Meal Benefits Application by February 26, 2021 - Parents, please consider applying for meal benefits by Feb 26. For every student that turns in the free and reduced lunch application and qualifies, the school receives federal funds that benefit the student and teachers at the school. These funds provide additional teachers and staff for the school which means more services for students, especially students that are struggling in reading or math. These funds also are used for materials and supplies for students and teachers. These are valuable resources that teachers can use to improve student achievement.
Yes, meals will still be free for all students through June 2021 but we still need you to complete a meal benefits application so our school can be eligible for this extra funding next year. Information about applying for Meal Benefits for the 2020-21 school year can be found at www.wcpss.net/Page/1849 . Help our school continue to receive this funding by completing an application online at MySchoolApps.com. Paper applications can be requested by calling 919-588-3535.
WCPSS CTE- Career Connections 2021: Career and Technical Education will be celebrating CTE Month by hosting Career Connections 2021 on February 24, 2021 for students grades 8-12. The virtual event using Booth Central will kick-off at 9:00 am with a wide selection of 30-minute career readiness workshops hosted by WCPSS Career Development Coordinators. From 11:00-12:00, students will have the opportunity to meet virtually with industry professionals during an Industry Fair showcasing the 16 Career Clusters. Attestation Required to Ride a School Bus
When students return to school to take in-person exams or to begin second semester rotations, we must have a completed attestation on file. Essentially, this means that you understand and will abide by health and safety requirements to board the bus and attend school. Students are not permitted to ride until this form has been completed. Screenings at school will still occur. You may go online to register by using this link or following the pathway provided. https://www.wcpss.net/Page/44657 OR wcpss.net-->Transportation--> Online Attestation Form (left side, bottom of list)
Senior Fees
We have posted the senior fees to our Online School Payments. You can access through our school website.
Making our Schools Safe Learning Environments
WCPSS has created and shared a document to prepare families for return to campus. While most of our students will not return this semester, it would be wise to review this information. You may also have younger students for which this information is important now. Go to the Return to Campus Guide linked here. It will address student requirements, cleaning plans, transportation questions and more.
WCPSS Anonymous Tip Line
After a conversation with a couple of our students who are members of the Rolesville Coalition for Equity, I think I need to remind students and parents that WCPSS has a tip line for students in the event that they see or hear something but are uncomfortable telling an adult. The number is 919-856-1911. Here is the website with more information. This tip line is for real, serious concerns about school safety.
What if my Ram’s WCPSS-issued Chromebook or Hotspot is not working properly?
WCPSS has a family help desk to support your needs. Please visit https://www.wcpss.net/domain/17256. You will complete a form online to which a WCPSS employee from the Help Desk will respond with a call to you.
Have a great weekend and stay RAM STRONG!
Best,
Mrs. Lassiter
