Hello, Ram family!

I hope that you are well and hanging in there okay.  This week has been indescribable. I am sure you would say the same.

I also know you have many questions for which there are simply no certain answers.  I have fielded quite a lot of them over the week and found that I cannot always provide much direction.  I do feel like there are a couple of things that I need to share that will be of some help.

WCPSS has released the site with review resources.  WCPSS Remote Learning Resources website has lots of opportunities for students to stay fresh with skills and content in their courses.

I also know that many teachers are setting up review work on their Google Classrooms or Canvas sites.  This work is likely better tailored to our RHS student needs.

No matter which work your Ram might choose, please understand that your top priority is safety during this time.  Of course, we would love to think students are putting time into review, but we also know that students have responsibilities when the family is home together that may take precedence.

I will always, always recommend that students take time to read each day.

Changing gears, we were in the middle of registration for 2020-21 when our world so quickly changed.  We still have quite a number of students with whom we need to speak about registration. Mr. Miller, Dean of Students, is reaching out to families to gather information about registration.  Please, please respond expeditiously. This information is critical to the development of the schedule and teacher assignments. While these timelines are not really anything we expect the broader school community to understand, the administrators and Student Services teams are keenly aware that the calendar moves on whether or not we are prepared for the new year.

For those who plan to take AP courses next year, you can email your AP agreements and AP testing contracts to Mr. Miller at temiller@wcpss.net.   If you do not have the means to scan, email him and he can provide guidance on alternatives.

We would love to keep our Ram spirits up by hearing from you at #MyRolesville on Twitter.  We want to make sure we are sending love to one another and sharing the good that can be found even in challenging situations.

Seniors and Senior Parents, the following section of the email are intended for you.

As the administrative team works to address some unique challenges this spring, our thoughts continuously come back to you as a group.  Each of you to some degree represents the collective PreK-12 work of our school district. You represent not only your schools, but also the hopes that your family and caregivers, teachers, and other school staff have for you and your future.  Similarly, we know that the senior year is a time of great tradition and activities that you look forward to including prom, graduation, Senior Week, and more. Because we greatly value both you and this senior experience, we must acknowledge that words fail to adequately capture the emotional stress and uncertainty that we know you are experiencing at this time.  

Our hope is that this letter will provide you with greater clarity about what the road ahead looks like for you as a senior class of the Wake County Public School System.  First and foremost, please know that we are committed to providing seniors who are on track to graduation a viable path to becoming a graduate this spring. Included with this letter are a series of questions and answers specifically related to our seniors.  We will work to continue to update this FAQ and it will be available to you at www.wcpss.net/classof2020

As you have questions about the senior year and senior experience, please feel free to submit those to dlassiter@wcpss.net.  Our school leaders will use your questions and feedback to inform the next steps.

We know there are many questions that still need answers. School district leaders are communicating with state leaders on many of those questions because guidance in those areas must come from state officials.
