ACT for Juniors: All Juniors in NC take the ACT on the same day. This year, the date is Feb. 25th. If your Junior has not been online to check out resources, particularly sample problems, it is a very good idea to set aside time to do so. There is nothing you have to do at home to register for the assessment, but it would be invaluable to take time to look through test prep materials.
Senior Baccalaureate Service: PTSA asked me to let you know that the date, time and location have been set for the Class of 2020. It is a voluntary senior activity sponsored by the PTSA and will be on June 6th at 10 AM at Life Pointe Church on Durant Road. More information will follow. They just wanted you to be aware in order to put it on your calendar.
REPEAT - ALMOST HERE!!!
Rising Ninth Grade Curriculum and Advance Placement Planning Night - January 30th: We will have a presentation for rising ninth graders and their parents to help with registration preparations. Likewise, we will have information regarding AP classes for next year.
REPEAT - ALMOST HERE!!! HBCU College Fair and Black History Month Celebration - Feb. 1: We hope many of you will join us for the first event of its kind at RHS. Full details can be found on our school website and school Twitter account. Events will occur all day. Following is the link to the Eventbrite for adults and students to register: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/rolesville-high-school-black-history-event-tickets-87816532613.

Preparations for first semester Honor Roll Celebration - February 21st: Each year, PTSA sponsors the honor roll celebration in February. There will be a Sign-up Genius in the near future to gather water bottles, juice boxes, cookies, napkins and individual hand wipes for the event. It is particularly helpful to get cookies right after Valentine's Day when they go on sale, so heads up! We will send the sign-up soon!
PTSA Board Nominations: The current board is taking nominations for the 2020-21 board positions. If you are interested or have a nomination, please contact Candy Terrell-Galke at candyterrellgalke@gmail.com Nominations are needed no later than April 1st.
PTSA Reindeer Day 2020 (Nov. 7th) Planning: The PTSA Board is also thinking ahead to next year’s event. They are in need of people who are willing to oversee specific functions of the event. At this time, they need someone to oversee the raffle, coordinate volunteers, manage marketing and oversee clean-up. If you are willing to do any one of these roles, please let Mrs. Lassiter know or let one of the current board members know.
PTSA Scholarship:
- The deadline for seniors to join PTSA is April 13th in order to be eligible to apply for the scholarship. One scholarship will be awarded for $500 to a student who will be going to a four-year school. Another scholarship will be awarded for $500 to a student who will be going to a two-year school. Applications are available outside Student Services.
- PTSA needs volunteers who are not senior parents who are willing to be scholarship readers. Please email Mrs. Lassiter at dlassiter@wcpss.net if you are willing to assist.
From Student Services:
- Applications for the State Employees Credit Union Scholarship are now available. This is a $10,000 scholarship that will go to at least one RHS senior. Students may pick up the application packet outside of Student Services. Complete application packets must be submitted to Ms. Harris by Friday, February 14th.
- Please check the RHS Scholarship Bulletin regularly for other scholarship opportunities.
Yearbook Reminders: Buy your students' yearbook before January 31st! The 2020 yearbook is currently $80.00, and this is the last chance to get personalization on your yearbook cover. The price increases on February 1st. Visit jostensyearbooks.com to purchase a yearbook.

Mini College Fair on April 1st: Several regional colleges and universities have reps that live in our area. They have joined together to offer a mini-fair during lunches on April 1st. Colleges that will be represented are Appalachian, ECU, Johnson and Wales, St. Andrews, UNC-G, UNC-W, U of SC, U of AL. We will share more information as the time approaches. This event will be a great opportunity for students in all grades to gather information.
Youth Leadership Rolesville Applications: It is hard to believe, but it is time for the next of applications for the 2020-21 Youth Leadership Rolesville cohort. This opportunity is for students who live in the 27571 zip code. It follows a Hugh O’Brien leadership model and allows students to learn about and contribute to their community. Students visit and learn about local landmarks, the local government, meet people who are central to the function of Rolesville and more. They also participate in projects that help them grow through unique experiences that are not replicated within the school. Applications can be found online at
https://rolesvillechamber.org/youth-leadership-rolesville/ and are due by February 29th.
Elizabeth City State University Winter Open House Bus Trip: ECSU is offering a bus trip for interested students to visit campus on Feb. 11th. The $25 fee covers the bus ride from Tower Shopping Center (behind Popeyes) to campus and arrival back to campus around 11:30 PM. Lunch and a basketball game will also be included. Students who are interested may come to Student Services to get an application. Applications should be sent soon as this opportunity is first-come, first served.
Daily Announcements: Sometimes, students say that they missed announcements for a variety of reasons. If you want to make sure your family is aware of the announcements (sports, arts, testing, schedules) that impact students day-to-day, check our school website under “Our School” and then “Daily Announcements.”
Past Year Yearbooks: We have overrun copies from 2016-17 ($20), 2017-18 ($30) and 2018-19 ($50) for sale in room 4905. Sales will be cash only.
PTSA Scholarships: In December, PTSA will release information and a scholarship application for seniors who are members of PTSA. PTSA plans to award one scholarship of $500 to a student who will attend a two-year college and another $500 scholarship to a student member who will attend a four-year college or university.
Business Ads in Yearbook: If you are interested in buying an ad in our yearbook or if you know someone who would like to purchase one, please email Ms. Rebecca Hatcher at rhatcher@wcpss.net to let her know.
Language Preference in Talking Points: We are pleased that many of you are already engaging with staff through the Talking Points App. If you wish to receive the message in English instead of the home language provided to us in Powerschools, you may switch the language to English at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lSJyVEkFD65nhxtxfGVlHBGR7SQM6Kxn/view?usp=sharing.
