Schedule Change Requests for Second Semester: Students must go online to the RHS website on Dec. 18-19 to make a request. Remember that requests will only be considered for the following conditions:
- a student wants to increase rigor (moving from an Academic course to Honors course or an Honors course to an AP course)
- a student is scheduled for a course they have previously passed, a student is missing a course needed to graduate (this only applies to Seniors)
- a student has an incomplete schedule (holes in schedules will be filled with courses selected during the registration process OR classes with available space at the time of the request)
- a student is scheduled for the same course twice
- a student has a schedule with a sequencing issue (i.e. scheduled for French II before French I - in this case the scheduling issue will be fixed, but the student will not be able to select new courses)

DEADLINE for ACT Practice Test sign-up and Results Review Session: Dec. 18th is the deadline to sign up for the Jan. 6 practice. Students will need to be here by 7:30 and must stay all 4 hours that we test in order to have a good testing environment. Go to the school site to register. On Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 6:30 pm, we'll have an ACT Information Night. At this time students who took the test on Sat., Jan. 6 will receive their scores and information will be discussed in regards to understanding and reading the scores. Please mark your calendars!!
Senior Exemptions: They are only eligible to be exempt from teacher-made exams. If there are unexcused absences, the student may not be exempt. The following applies:
3 or fewer excused absences with an A overall average
2 or fewer excused absences with a B overall average
1 or fewer excused absences with a C overall average
For the purposes of exemption only, students who do not have any tardies can earn back on absence. This will impact exams, not the attendance as marked in Powerschool.
Note in the Pocket: We will have the boxes in the front office, by the media center and near the stairs on the 3rd and 4th floors. Please send gently used clothes or new clothes January 2-12. If you clean out closets over break, this is a great time to send clothes to people who have a need.

Canvas Parent app: As of December 4, 2017, parents can use the Canvas Parent app on Android and Apple mobile devices to stay up-to-date with their student's Canvas courses. The app helps parents stay up-to-date with Canvas course assignments and deadlines. Parents will be able to connect to their student’s Canvas account by creating their own account in the Canvas Parent app and then having their child log-in with his/her Wake ID information on the parent’s device in order to link the accounts. Attached is a support document to help parents install and navigate the Canvas Parent App. Parents and teachers can visit http://canvas.wcpss.net/canvasparent for additional information and support.
Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics: This program is for high-achieving students. It is free and held on four UNC system campuses and is open to sophomores and juniors. Applications are due on January 15th and are available in Student Services.
Schedule Change Requests: These must be made online on December 18th and 19th. They must meet the requirements to be considered. Students whose schedules will be modified will be notified on January 8th or 9th.
Ram Rocks: Some of you will remember these from RMS. We have opened this option up for students at RHS. If you hear your child say that a staff member has done something worthy of a thank you, encourage him or her to go to the main office, media center or Student Services to complete a form and put it in the box. Sometimes the very best things we can give don’t cost a thing!
ACT Study Guides: We have guides in the media center available for check out.
NCTAP: Students who are interested in this apprenticeship program must register to attend a mandatory meeting. The remaining dates for meetings are January 13th and January 27th. Visit nctap.org to register and learn more.
Senior Fees: June grads need to go to Online School Payments on our website to pay $40.
Youth Legislative Assembly: On April 6-8, 2018 the Legislative Services Offices under the NC General Assembly will host the annual Youth Legislative Assembly. The YLA teaches high school students about the laws governing NC citizens as well as the lawmaking process. Students will draft, debate and vote on mock legislative bills while developing skills in research, interviewing, and policy writing. Students must apply and be accepted in order to attend. Bank of America Summer Internship Program: There is a wonderful opportunity for an 8-week paid internship next summer! The Bank of America Summer Internship Program targets WCPSS juniors and seniors. Selected students participating in the Student Leaders Program must commit to working for 8 weeks in Wake County with a non-profit for 35 hours each week. During the 8th week, the students will attend an all expense paid trip to a week long "Student Leaders Summit in Washington D.C." During the Summit approximately 200 students from all across the country will have an opportunity to connect with like minded students, meet with elected officials in Washington and also network with key individuals from Bank of America. The conference is July 8-13, 2018. The application window is open until Feb. 2, 2018. The link to the program and the application is:

Registration for AP Exams: The site for registration went live on December 11th. Mr Douglas, our Dean of Students, has prepared information for the AP teachers to share with the students.If you wish to see the presentation, you will be able to access it on the RHS website. Jobs Success 101- Rescheduled: Students who live in the Wake Forest area are invited to the first annual Jobs Success 101 training seminar sponsored by the Wake Forest Chamber Foundation. The seminar is scheduled for students on February 22, 2018 from 8:30-1:30 p.m. Since this is a school day, students would be required to have signed parent permission forms to miss a school day. The space is limited to 100 students. If students signed up when this was originally planned earlier in the year, those students will have first choice for this event and will already be signed up.
