    REPEAT

First Semester Exams - Important:  We published a schedule at the start of the year to help everyone plan ahead.  I learned late last Friday (after everyone else was out of the building)  that NCDPI has told us that teacher-made exams and all state assessments must be in the five-day testing window.  Several schools on the block schedule have been impacted.  This means that we will begin all assessments on Friday, January 12th, and complete them Friday, January 19th.  Please note this change.  We are presently drafting a schedule and will communicate to staff first.  It is not cemented, so we need to review upon return in January, have students complete their exam schedule worksheet and then notify parents.

Senior Exemptions:  They are only eligible to be exempt from teacher-made exams. If there are unexcused absences, the student may not be exempt.  The following applies:

3 or fewer excused absences with an A overall average

2 or fewer excused absences with a B overall average

1 or fewer excused absences with a C overall average

For the purposes of exemption only, students who do not have any tardies can earn back on absence.  This will impact exams, not the attendance as marked in Powerschool.

Note in the Pocket:  We will have the boxes in the front office, by the media center and near the stairs on the 3rd and 4th floors.  Please send gently used clothes or new clothes January 2-12.  If you clean out closets over break, this is a great time to send clothes to people who have a need.

Curriculum Night and Open House:  Set for February 5th...more information to come

Superintendent Search:  The Communications Dept. of WCPSS is asking for parent input on a form.  We will have paper copies if you are interested in that or you may access the survey at wcpss.net/superintendent-search.  We need paper copies back in our office by January 12th in order to courier them to the Communications Department.

CCP and CTE Internship Applications:  The deadline to submit for either of these is January 10th.  Students need to see Mrs. McPherson for more information.

Students in Spanish 3 Honors or who have completed Spanish 3 Honors:  Ms. Gillen has notified these students that applications for the RHS Spanish Honor Society, Chapter El Camino, are available and must be submitted by the end of the semester.

Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics:  This program is for high-achieving students.  It is free and held on four UNC system campuses and is open to sophomores and juniors.  Applications are due on January 15th and are available in Student Services.

Ram Rocks:  Some of you will remember these from RMS.  We have opened this option up for students at RHS.  If you hear your child say that a staff member has done something worthy of a thank you, encourage him or her to go to the main office, media center or Student Services to complete a form and put it in the box.  Sometimes the very best things we can give don’t cost a thing!

ACT Study Guides:  We have guides in the media center available for check out.

NCTAP:  Students who are interested in this apprenticeship program must register to attend a mandatory meeting.  The remaining dates for meetings are January 13th and January 27th.  Visit nctap.org to register and learn more.

Senior Fees:  June grads need to go to  Online School Payments on our website  to pay $40.

Bank of America Summer Internship Program:  There is a wonderful opportunity for an 8-week paid internship next summer! The Bank of America Summer Internship Program targets WCPSS juniors and seniors.  Selected students participating in the Student Leaders Program must commit to working for 8 weeks in Wake County with a non-profit for 35 hours each week.  During the 8th week, the students will attend an all expense paid trip to a week long "Student Leaders Summit in Washington D.C."  During the Summit approximately 200 students from all across the country will have an opportunity to connect with like minded students, meet with elected officials in Washington and also network with key individuals from Bank of America.  The conference is July 8-13, 2018.  The application window is open until Feb. 2, 2018.
