    NEW

Planning ahead for current juniors:  In the past few summers, seniors have taken portraits at a studio in Raleigh.  We have been in conversation this past week and are very likely going to host tux/drape, cap and gown, informals at RHS during the week of July 30-Aug. 3 as opposed to a studio off site.  I wanted to give you a heads up that we are trying to make the trip shorter and the effort easier to accomplish over the summer.  There will be more information to come later, but I thought it would be important to let you know given it is a shift in the way we have done business in the past.

ACT on Feb. 27th: After the review of the practice scores this week, I realized that parents really need to understand some critical information.  First, all juniors take the ACT for free.  This is a GREAT chance to nail the exam in preparation for college applications.  The exam needs to be taken very seriously.  If they do really well, it will not be necessary to pay to take the exam again.  Secondly, students need to retake by early summer in order to have score to be ready to apply for early admissions and scholarships.  Lastly, we only offer the ACT for all students without a fee.  If your child tends to be a stronger math student than English, the SAT might be a better assessment to show those skills.  We learned to much from the Collegewise presentation that I wish you all could have heard.  More than anything, I hope sophomore and junior parents are doing research now.  Starting these processes during the senior year is really quite late and could prevent students for accessing opportunities. I care fiercely for students to have great chances, so I am sharing or order to have you get the wheels in motion!

Free ACT prep sessions for juniors:   Every point increase on your ACT means greater opportunities for college scholarships and financial aid. These sessions are free, but registration is requested.
