Congratulations on the EOCs and Growth on 2018-19 Assessments: I am not sure if you caught this last week when the state released data and the school report cards. First of all, RHS was one of three WCPSS high schools to exceed growth. Additionally, the composite score that earned a letter grade of C was 0.14 from a B. The efforts on behalf of students and staff is to be commended. We have made MAJOR moves in recent years, from the lowest C to the highest C. In the educational data world, this is a huge shift. I want to publicly say thanks to all who have worked so hard and also want to say let’s stay the course and see where we might “B” at the end of this year!?!
Senior Parent Night: First of all, I want to be sure that you have the correct start time which is 6 PM. This is the opportunity for you to hear from counselors about events on the senior calendar, senior awards day, senior honors, Latin Honors (distributed at the awards ceremony), graduation requirements, initial graduation event information, post-secondary planning, college applications and admissions processes, financial aid access and more. We look forward to seeing you next Thursday evening.
College Visits: It is the time of year that we will have lots of colleges visit our campus. Student Services manages these visits. We make announcements to let students know to sign up to meet with a college representative. This is a great time for your senior to get 1:1 time with the college rep.
HBCU College Fair - Sept. 21 from 10AM-1PM (Free): If you need more information, contact Linda Simmons-Henry at lshenry25@gmail.com
Student Volunteer Opportunity: The Town of Rolesville will be coordinating a "Litter Sweep" for our local community, in conjunction with the NC DOT Litter Sweep program. The goal of the town commissioners is to engage teens (minimum age of 12 yrs old to participate) and mentors. We will be reaching out to local schools for student participation but will need adults to help with these efforts. The event will be held Saturday, September 21st from 8:00am - 10:30am. We will meet at Rolesville Community Center (514 Southtown Cir) and disperse the group to pick up litter from Jonesville Road to Main Street, and then Main Street to Town Hall. Below is a link for volunteer signup. https://www.cognitoforms.com/TownOfRolesville/VolunteerSignup
Governor’s School Interest Meeting: GS is a publicly funded residential summer program for intellectually gifted HS students in NC. It serves rising seniors with the occasional rising junior in the arts programs. This is the time of year to ask questions and prepare to apply. There is an informational meeting on Thursday, September 26th at 6 PM at Jones Chapel on the campus of Meredith College. If you have questions and wish to start with the school, please contact Mrs. Dorothy Wood-Webb in our Student Services Department.
ASVAB Administration - Friday, October 4th at 7:30 AM in RHS Media Center: For students who are interested in a military career or want to learn more about their strengths as they pertain to training and careers, the ASVAB is highly recommended. The deadline to register is September 27th. Students may sign up in Mrs. Ellis’s office or Student Services.
Leaders of Tomorrow Program sponsored by the National Black MBA Association - Saturday, September 14th: This program provides leadership development through mentorships in life skills, financial literacy, and college/career prep.
PSAT at RHS - October 16th at 7:30 AM: This administration is open to 9th through 11th graders who want to take this practice version of the SAT. To register, go to our school website and then to the Parent tab. In Online School Payments, look for PSAT. The cost is $17 and the deadline to register is September 18, 2019.

The PSAT will be given at Rolesville High School on October 16th, 2019 at 7:30 am in the Media Center. The PSAT is offered to any 9th – 11th-grade student that would like the opportunity to test. It covers critical thinking, mathematics, and writing multiple-choice questions. In order to register for the test, you must go online to the Rolesville High School homepage (http://www.wcpss.net/rolesvillehs) Go to the PARENT tab at the top of the page and then click on Online Payments. Choose the PSAT from the list provided. The cost of the test is $17 and the deadline to register is September 18, 2019.
Next for PTSA: We have to move into full swing for Reindeer Day preparations. The event is Nov. 2nd from 9AM-4PM. Admission is $3. We are looking for folks to manage one piece of this event. We need a raffle coordinator, an advertising coordinator, a food and vendor coordinator, a volunteer coordinator, and a clean-up coordinator. We will send out a Sign-up Genius. Right now, I just wanted to plant a seed to see if we have interested helpers.
Family Contact Information: Please, please make sure that you check your child’s Powerschool information in Parent Portal. It is critical that we have current information to reach you. It is also critical that we have the correct information about who may pick your child up/sign him or her out. We cannot verify pick-ups through phone calls as you can certainly understand that we have no real proof of who the caller might be. If you need to make corrections, these will need to be done with our data manager, Jane Stever, in Student Services. The Student Services number is 919-554-6303 x 20403.
PTSA Needs Your Support: Any and all of these would be a great help.
- Please join PTSA! Forms were in the students’ first day packets.
- Harris Teeter wipes out links from their cards to schools in June each year. PLEASE link your HT card to Rolesville High School again.
- Please link us with your Lowes Foods card.
- When you are shopping, they ask that you use Amazon Smiles under RHS.
- Target Cards can be linked using code 1534.
SAT at RHS: I just want to alert that we have an administration on-site October 5th. Check for availability and do not wait to sign up!
Wake County College Fair: Sept. 15 at NCSU McKimmon Center from 2-4: 30 PM (Free). Be sure to take a bag for all of the materials you collect.
Senior Info on Twitter: Seniors and Senior Parents need to follow senior information on Twitter @RamsCounselors. We reviewed this with the students at Senior meeting this morning.
College Visits: Also, there are several colleges already setting visit times for the upcoming weeks. We include alerts for students in the morning announcements. Students must sign up in Student Services for a time slot to speak with a representative. I just wanted you to be aware of how this works.
To apply for Free and Reduced Meal Benefits Online: Go to www.MySchoolApps.com today to apply and potentially avoid a break in service. Also, remember that there is a change that is very, very important regarding the carryover from last year to the next year. I want to make sure families are aware. The new time limit for carryover from the prior year is 30 operating days or until the application is processed, whichever comes first. Remember that if students in the same household are on different school calendars, the deadline for benefits will be different dates. The deadline for traditional schools will be October 8, 2019. Families will receive a meal benefits card in the mail with instructions about how to apply. Paper copies will also be available at RHS when school begins. Students may request a copy from the cafeteria manager if paper is preferred over electronic application.
