The PSAT will be given at Rolesville High School on October 16th, 2019 at 7:30 am in the Media Center.  The PSAT is offered to any 9th – an 11th-grade student that would like the opportunity to test. It covers critical thinking, mathematics, and writing multiple-choice questions. In order to register for the test, you must go online to the Rolesville High School homepage (https://www.wcpss.net/rolesvillehs) Go to the PARENT tab at the top of the page and then click on Online Payments. Choose the PSAT from the list provided.  The cost of the test is $17 and the deadline to register is September 18, 2019.

Next for PTSA:  We have to move into full swing for Reindeer Day preparations.  The event is Nov. 2nd from 9AM-4PM. Admission is $3. We are looking for folks to manage one piece of this event.  We need a raffle coordinator, an advertising coordinator, a food and vendor coordinator, a volunteer coordinator, and a clean-up coordinator. We will send out a Sign-up Genius.  Right now, I just wanted to plant a seed to see if we have interested helpers.

Request to Parents of Students in Dr. Tomlinson’s Science Classes as written by Dr. Tomlinson:

Parents I need your help at this early point in the semester. If your student is in one of my classes please help me help them by completing this short survey. Information gathered will help me get to know our students better and will help me know how best to communicate with you about class happenings and upcoming deadlines. Parent Survey: https://forms.gle/eijHtKs2aaVzdTqz5

This week students in APES have a test on unit one. Information about unit content and expectations can be found on my website: https://thomtomlinson.wixsite.com/doctort This week students will learn how to give a TED talk, answer a Free Response Question and complete a dimensional analysis problem. We will also begin our second unit which will give students a chance to learn about biodiversity.

Leadership students will find out the new field trip date this week, probably Wednesday. Students will assess the behavioral preferences of isopods (rolly pollies), work on improving their skills at writing lab reports and have a minor assessment on metric conversions using dimensional analysis.

    REVIEW

Family Contact Information:  Please, please make sure that you check your child’s Powerschool information in Parent Portal.  It is critical that we have current information to reach you. It is also critical that we have the correct information about who may pick your child up/sign him or her out.  We cannot verify pick-ups through phone calls as you can certainly understand that we have no real proof of who the caller might be. If you need to make corrections, these will need to be done with our data manager, Jane Stever, in Student Services.  The Student Services number is 919-554-6303 x 20403.

PTSA Needs Your Support:  Any and all of these would be a great help.

    1. Please join PTSA!  Forms were in the students’ first day packets.
    2. Harris Teeter wipes out links from their cards to schools in June each year.  PLEASE link your HT card to Rolesville High School again.
    3. Please link us with your Lowes Foods card.
    4. When you are shopping, they ask that you use Amazon Smiles under RHS.
    5. Target Cards can be linked using code 1534.

SAT at RHS:  I just want to alert that we have an administration on-site October 5th.  Check for availability and do not wait to sign up!

Wake County College Fair:  Sept. 15 at NCSU McKimmon Center from 2-4:30 PM

.Be sure to take a bag for all of the materials you collect.

Senior Info on Twitter:  Seniors and Senior Parents need to follow senior information on Twitter @RamsCounselors.  We reviewed this with the students at Senior meeting this morning.

College Visits:  Also, there are several colleges already setting visit times for the upcoming weeks.  We include alerts for students in the morning announcements. Students must sign up in Student Services for a time slot to speak with a representative.  I just wanted you to be aware of how this works.

To apply for Free and Reduced Meal Benefits Online:  Go to www.MySchoolApps.com today to apply and potentially avoid a break in service. Also, remember that there is a change that is very, very important regarding the carryover from last year to the next year.  I want to make sure families are aware. The new time limit for carryover from the prior year is 30 operating days or until the application is processed, whichever comes first. Remember that if students in the same household are on different school calendars, the deadline for benefits will be different dates. The deadline for traditional schools will be October 8, 2019. Families will receive a meal benefits card in the mail with instructions about how to apply. Paper copies will also be available at RHS when school begins. Students may request a copy from the cafeteria manager if paper is preferred over electronic application.
