• RHS Weekly Announcements     |    October 2, 2020

    Hello, Ram families!

    Happy Friday to you!

SAT at RHS on Saturday, Oct. 3

Students taking the SAT tomorrow: Please arrive by 7:30am to allow enough time for a COVID-19 Health Screening. Please remember to bring your admission ticket, #2 pencils, identification, your mask, calculator, and any snack/drink you may want. Please enter the school by the main office (flag pole). It is required to wear your mask throughout your entire time on campus and to maintain social distancing. Good luck tomorrow.  You got this!

    Asynchronous Days for RHS

As many of you are aware, WCPSS has determined that each school can designate one day per week as an asynchronous day.  At RHS, we have decided that Oct. 7th, 14th and 28th will be asynchronous days.  Students will have assignments that must be submitted and will be used for attendance purposes.  Staff will use this time for feedback to students, meetings such as IEP meetings, tutoring with individuals and groups of students, planning with their like-content colleagues and more.

    Volleyball Workouts Begin Next Week

School Pictures for 9th, 10th and 11th Graders Only

We will be on campus October 5th with appointments 1:00pm-7:00pm, October 6th appointments 9:00am-3:00pm and October 7th 9:00am-3:00pm.  The location will be the Commons Area (first floor cafeteria).  The link to sign up and information can be found here.

Class Rings and Senior Graduation Products

Josten is planning to go live with online sales on September 16th.  Seniors need to go to the Jostens website to place cap and gown orders.  Caps and gowns will be required for participation in the graduation ceremony.  The price for a cap and gown set is $47.

For those who prefer to order on site, Jostens will have a representative at school on October 6th from 2:30-4:30 to take in-person/drive-through orders.

I am going to throw an aside here.  If a senior did not participate in the senior parade and thus did not get your water bottle, we will have them available when you come to make your Jostens order.

Additionally, if you did not get your credit detail report at the parade, we will have those available, too

Materials Pick-Up while you are here for Pictures

Math 1, 2 and 3 materials for Quarter 2 will be available for pick-up when you come for pictures or Jostens products.  Please ask where to go to get them when you are at the school.  Other teachers may have items for pick-up, as well.  All teachers who do have items for pick-up will notify the students in class live sessions and will provide lists of students to office staff who will assist you if your Ram needs materials.  We are making materials available to allow for limited trips to school.

You do not need to make a special trip just for materials.  We will need to have an additional day for and dedicated to pick-up.  We are just trying to save you a trip if you are coming for pictures or Jostens already.  I will share more information with you about an additional pick-up date later.

    Senior Makeup Pictures

We have Nov. 12th as the date for these.  We will send more information as we are prepared to address senior pictures.

Immunizations for Seniors, including Virtual Academy

We are making one more attempt to get the shot records for our seniors.  Per state law, whether a student is on site or in virtual school, shot records are required.  We will have to exclude students (suspend) beginning October 12th if we do not have records.  Is is extremely important to contact Jane Stever (jstever@wcpss.net) to share a copy of your senior’s shot record if you have been contacted regarding absence of a record.

Important Points from the PTSA Meeting Last Tuesday

PTSA needs your support.  It starts with membership.  Please join.  The membership form invites parents and students to join.

There is no way to plan for our Annual Reindeer Day in these uncertain times.  The Board has cancelled the event but will ask vendors if they are interested in a spring event instead.  Given no certainties, they will also be looking for other means to support the many events they sponsor or assist.

You can take simple steps to help by simply linking  your Harris Teeter card (code 2392) or Target card (code 15343).  Lowes Foods presently has pads at checkout to help customers who wish to link your card to a school.  Amazon Smile is also another possibility, but be sure to select OUR Rolesville High School.  There are other schools with RHS, etc. that might be misleading.

In order to assure that we have operating funds for the events that support our students, the PTSA is hosting a no-fuss fundraiser.  They have sent a letter to explain and ask that each family support via the methods they have provided.  We would sincerely appreciate fundraising in this manner to help us proceed with planning for the year.  If each family in our school were to donate $5, we would have a substantial amount of the operating funds we need to hold events for our students.  PLEASE, PLEASE consider donating by October 31st.

If we have other fundraising events, I will publish.  I ask for all that can participate please do so.

    Chromebook Updates

If your student has a WCPSS-provided Chromebook, it is very important that the computer be shut down every night.  There are updates that are pushed out overnight and need to run when the computer is turned in the morning.  PLEASE have this discussion with your Ram to help the computers run well.

What if my Ram’s WCPSS-issued Chromebook or Hotspot is not working properly?

WCPSS has a family help desk to support your needs.  Please visit https://www.wcpss.net/domain/17256.  You will complete a form online to which a WCPSS employee from the Help Desk will respond with a call to you.

    Virtual Senior Parent Night

While we are still building the senior year as we go, the counselors have provided a link to a virtual presentation that we normally share in our auditorium.  Senior parents, please take time to listen to the presentation to help you know what to anticipate for the senior year..  This presentation is online on the Student Services page.  The presentation has been recorded in Spanish as well as English.  The presentations will stay online to allow parents to view it.  There is also an FAQ form for parents to submit questions after they view the presentation.

Important: Free breakfast and lunch for all students

Students in all grade levels can receive a free breakfast and lunch from an operating location until December 31*. Please visit https://www.wcpss.net/food for a list of operating sites. The curbside meal service will operate Monday through Friday from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Students will receive breakfast and lunch at no cost! No student ID number required to receive meals. *Or until funding is depleted.

    Financial Aid Advisor

Our new advisor, Linda Taylor,  will begin working in her role on Sept. 14th.  She will be available for our school on Wednesdays from 9AM - 2PM.  She will be working onsite most of the time.  The financial aid video has been posted to our website.  I just want to be certain that parents are aware that they can make appointments to speak with her.  I am not certain how she will want to be contacted just yet, but I want to put it on your radar.  You are always welcome to call the school and ask for the Student Services Department to connect with her.

If you must come to school

I know I have said it, but please come prepared.  You must wear a mask, follow social distancing guidelines and sanitize when you are here.

If we can handle things remotely

Anything we can handle remotely, let’s plan to do it remotely.  We will hold virtual meetings with parents, Student Services, etc.  We are happy to schedule them.  We all just need to get our virtual work calendars in sync!

Have a great weekend and stay RAM STRONG!

    Best,

    Mrs. Lassiter
