Youth Legislative Assembly:  On April 6-8, 2018 the Legislative Services Offices under the NC General Assembly will host the annual Youth Legislative Assembly. The YLA teaches high school students about the laws governing NC citizens as well as the lawmaking process. Students will draft, debate and vote on mock legislative bills while developing skills in research, interviewing, and policy writing. Students must apply and be accepted in order to attend.  Students may apply no later than December 11, 2017, using the link http://www.ncleg.net/ncgainfo/YLA.html.

Reality of Money Thanks:  We received many compliments from SECU and community volunteers about our students during Reality of Money! Both the Seniors who were involved in rotating throughout the gym AND the student volunteers who assisted all day were complimented on the courtesy and respect shown throughout the event. We are so incredibly proud of our Rams!  Also, we really appreciate the SECU and all the community volunteers for helping.  We also appreciate  Off the Hook Seafood and Rosalini's for their generous donation for the volunteers' lunch.

NCTAP:  Representatives from NCTAP will be on our campus TUESDAY, DECEMBER 5, from 1 - 2 p.m. to talk about the North Carolina Triangle Apprenticeship Program.   This program begins during high school with students being trained and selected to work with local employers with opportunities to earn an Associate's Degree in Engineering, a Journeyman's Certificate, and guaranteed career opportunities with that employer.  To hear more about NCTAP and to meet a former RHS student who is in his 3rd year of the apprenticeship program, report to Room 3908 at 1:00 on Tuesday. You will need a pass from your teacher or Mrs. McPherson.  Visit nctap.org to learn more about this great opportunity.

Bank of America Summer Internship Program:  There is a wonderful opportunity for an 8-week paid internship next summer! The Bank of America Summer Internship Program targets WCPSS juniors and seniors.  Selected students participating in the Student Leaders Program must commit to working for 8 weeks in Wake County with a non-profit for 35 hours each week.  During the 8th week, the students will attend an all expense paid trip to a week long "Student Leaders Summit in Washington D.C."  During the Summit approximately 200 students from all across the country will have an opportunity to connect with like minded students, meet with elected officials in Washington and also network with key individuals from Bank of America.  The conference is July 8-13, 2018.  The application window is open until Feb. 2, 2018. REPEAT

Junior Parent/Student Information:  Whether you were able to attend the parent meeting on Monday or not, the information from the meeting has been posted to our school website in the Student Services section at https://www.wcpss.net/Page/27061.  Please make sure that you sign up for the Junior Remind account and pay attention to the ACT/SAT information. Text @98d8e to 81010 to join.  Students really should take their first round of ACT/SAT in the spring semester if not already done.  We will offer the ACT on Feb. 27th at RHS.  The students need to take this test very seriously.  It is the REAL DEAL and is a good gauge for students who are making college application decisions.  There is also information about college planning, financial aid planning and CCP at Wake Tech planning.  Please take the time to review the information if you were not present.

Note in the Pocket:  We will have boxes in place to collect new and gently used clothes beginning Monday, December 27th through Friday, December 8th.  We will run the collection again after we return in 2018.  If you are cleaning out closets in preparation for new gear for the holidays, we will be happy to take lightly used, clean clothes.  When I was at the middle school, we specifically had NITP jean drives, because that’s what most of our students wear each day.  NITP is utilized throughout Wake County to clothe students as opposed to the whole family.  Counselors and Social Workers often support families through this service.  You are also welcome to make donations of new clothing items.

Registration for AP Exams:  The site for registration will go live on December 11th.  Mr Douglas, our Dean of Students, has prepared information for the AP teachers to share with the students.  I want parents to be aware that this information will be shared prior to the site going live.  If you wish to see the presentation, you will be able to access it on the RHS website.  Go to Academics -> Advanced Placement -> RHS AP EXam Information -> AP Exam Informational Powerpoint.

Graduation Fees:  Mid-year graduate fee of $20 is due by December 14th.  Payment should be made online through Online School Payments on our school website.  Also, seniors who will graduate in June also should pay their $40 online through the same portal.

Jobs Success 101- Rescheduled:  Students who live in the Wake Forest area are invited to the first annual Jobs Success 101 training seminar sponsored by the Wake Forest Chamber Foundation.  The seminar is scheduled for students on February 22, 2018 from 8:30-1:30 p.m. Since this is a school day, students would be required to have signed parent permission forms to miss a school day. The space is limited to 100 students. If students signed up when this was originally planned earlier in the year, those students will have first choice for this event and will already be signed up.  The sign-up link is:   HTTPS://TINYURL.COM/ Y7K7P8BY

Senior Yearbook Ad Information:   It has been posted to our RHS homepage.
