• Rolesville High School Weekly Updates   |   September 16,  2017

McKimmon Center this Sunday - Wake County College Fair:  Sept. 17th - 2-4:30 PM...Over 100 colleges will be represented.  Remember to take a bag with you to collect materials from various schools.

Senior Night and Open House - Tuesday, September 26:  In an effort to help some parents make fewer trips to school for meetings, we are combining Senior Parent/Student Night and Fall Open House.  The senior parent/student meeting will be in the auditorium at 6 PM.  Parents will hear about the events for the upcoming year and there will be representatives to help parents and students begin to prepare for life after RHS.  From 7-8:15, we will host open house for all grades.  In essence, we will have 15 minute rotations with 5 minutes of travel time between classes.  You will have the opportunity to meet the teachers, learn about the curriculum, prepare for class requirements and learn how best to communicate with the teachers. This event will not be an appropriate opportunity to have deep discussions about your Ram and present performance.  It is an appropriate time to let the teacher know that you need to have a further conversation, if needed.  I want you to be prepared in advance for what you will or will not be able to accomplish in this short time. Whether you plan to come to one event or both, give yourself plenty of time to park and settle into the meetings.  Events like these are often difficult to fall into line if you are late.

Addition to Senior Parent/Student night  - new this year:  We are excited to add another opportunity for our parents and students at Senior Parent Night/Open House on Tuesday, September 26!  We have asked various branches of our military to be present to speak with parents/students and set up a table display during this event.  We hope this will help to better inform students and parents of the many opportunities provided by the military.  Weekly, we have military recruiters on our campus who are visible to students but not our parents. The military professionals often interact with students through classroom speaking, mock interview or financial literacy sessions, or our annual College and Career Fair.  We just want to have them available to you for any questions you may have. We appreciate their service to our country and especially to our school!!

Senior Meetings between Counselors and Students:  This week, the counselors met with students in small groups to prepare for the tasks that seniors complete during the year.  Also, they have prepared seniors for individual meetings.  During these meetings, the student’s counselor reviews the student’s transcript and makes sure all details are in place for the student to graduate on time and prepare for life after graduation.

Interims:  They will be distributed the week of Sept. 25th.

ENCORE!  A Night with Disney:  Join us Tuesday evening at 7 PM. Our performing arts students and staff will join forces to produce a collection of works from Disney.  The cost is $7 per ticket.  We hope to see you there!

Testing Schedule for 2017-18:  Test dates for all the exams and assessments that we know about will be  posted to the RHS website this coming week.  In the near future, we have the PSAT (Oct. 11).  Online School Payments has been set up for the PSAT and the deadline to pay is Sept. 21st.  We will also administer the Pre-ACT for 10th graders.  More information will be sent out as we get closer to those dates.

NC State Fair Tickets:  If you order online at the NC State Fair website, scroll down to the WCPSS deal.  Enter our school code 546.  RHS will earn $2 for every ticket sold.  Please consider purchasing this way to support RHS!

RHS Blood Drive:  The date has been set for October 6th for students and staff to donate. We will share more details with students as they become available.

Food from outside vendors:  Please do not bring outside food to the office to have it delivered to students.  This is addressed in the parent-student handbook.  When you arrive, it puts the office staff in a bad spot.  They know they are not supposed to send food to students.  This is just like the expectation that students who eat away from school are not allowed to bring food back into the building..

ACE Mentor Program:  Students who are interested in Architecture, Construction, or Engineering fields are invited to attend an orientation meeting for an exciting opportunity--the ACE MENTOR PROGRAM! This is a student driven program led by industry professionals as mentors. This is a FREE program giving students a practical hands-on view of how abstract concepts get transformed into the buildings that make up our everyday reality.  The meeting will be held on Thursday, September 21, at WTCC - North Campus,  Building D, Room 120, at 4:00pm. You do not need to register online to attend.

Shout Out to Rolesville Kiwanis:  A big THANK YOU and SHOUT OUT to the Rolesville Kiwanis Club for their generous donation of school supplies to RHS and area schools

Dirty Dogs Volunteers:  Students are invited to VOLUNTEER next weekend, September 23-24, for the 5th Annual Dirty Dogs Pet Extravaganza in Wake Forest. To sign up for the various shifts and responsibilities, go to http://signup.com/go/cLVPnhm
